The Nets are 10-3 in their last 13, and one of those losses, Russell didn't play.
Not bad for a (bleep) player huh? Dude has been balling this season. I like his improvements in almost all aspects of his game.
Arguably, DLO/Jules should have been kept over some of the guys on this team.
Also, young guys do tend to get better with time.
I was addressing the notion that many of the same people who now think keeping DLO/Jules would be a good thing may have felt the opposite when they were actually here.
Ironically, you add DLO and Lonzo's skills together and you have an all star PG.
Add Jules's physicality and tenaciousness into BI and you've got a pretty awesome forward.
We've drafted players who were not as well rounded it seems and 2 way players. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

We can blame the MozDeng contracts.
That’s a cop out. The new regime clearly did not value Russell and Randle. Russell was gone as soon as the new regime came in. They don’t hide anything with how they speak. The only guy they had high praise for was Ingram.
However, it turned out well for us. We got Lebron, and I’m sure we’ll get someone else (probably AD with the Rich Paul tie). That isn’t too shabby in my mind.
I hope he finds a home in Brooklyn. It’s a great organization. People will see that soon.

They didn't just trade DLO for the heck of it. They attached Moz to him, which was a huge move for the Lakers. Goes to show you though how costly it was to get rid of Moz. If you can't get rid of Moz, you can't get 2 max FAs. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

They never wanted Russell though. He was gone with or without Mozgov.

His passing abilities this season have been a joy to watch so far. Something we saw glimpses of early on when we had him. His game is really starting to come together. _________________ Music is my medicine

If anyone remembers, his passing highlights at OSU were a real treat to watch:

But how do you get rid of Moz's deal? That's the point. The Nets thought highly enough about DLO that they gave up a pretty sizeable return (eat Moz's deal, give us Brook/1st rounder).
If Moz's deal didn't exist, safe to say there's a better chance DLO or Jules are still Lakers. But someone worthwhile had to be attached to die for Moz's deal. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

No they didn’t have to, this FO chose to deal DLO with Mozgov. They could have just as easily not dealt them but that was their choice. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Any way you want to characterize it, the Moz/Deng deals were a major impediment to winning and were costly to undo. That was a fire-able offense. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

I get what you’re saying fully. But even if there was no Mozgov or Deng contracts, Russell was 100% gone. Obviously it’s pure speculation that can’t be proven, but I am certain of this. They didn’t want him at all. I’m not saying they made the wrong decision at all. It’ll work out fine for the Lakers. I’m just saying there kinda were made up as soon as they stepped in February. They would wax poetic about everyone except Russell.
Also, the Nets got rid of Mozgov this summer without giving up anything really.
16/3/3 at Half time against Memphis. 6-10, 2-4 from 3P. 3 TOs.
Nets will keep him imo. Dinwiddie is a great option on that contract, but is older and closer to his ceiling imo. DLO could easily be a PG who averages 8-9 assists in coming years while also being a volume scorer. I don't think Nets see Dinwiddie as a starter and NBA has so many great offensive PGs. _________________ Showtime 2.0

I was hoping to see these things when the Lakers drafted Ball/acquired LeBron:
DLo's halfcourt PG skills and shooting blending with Zo's transition PG skills and attentiveness for the ball. DLo places Zo in more off-ball situations where it seemed like he did well in back in UCLA (albeit based on highlights) and Zo can help to recover whenever DLo gets a little sloppy with the ball or D, plus DLo gives Zo an decent outside threat in transition plays.
-or-
LeBron and Randle sucking in the D allowing Ingram the freedom to use his best attribute - his length - to get to the basket. Ingram's role as a scorer becomes much easier. Perhaps you even could use this to experiment on his PnR game a bit.
Everyone is complemented well here, and it's such a shame none of this was able to happen. However, I strongly believe the FO doesn't care that much about team development until they get their 2nd star.
