Does anyone have any explanations for why we suck so hard guarding the 3 point shot? It seems that teams rain 3 pointers on us, usually shooting a better percentage than they usually do. We've lost at least 4 games this season specifically due to the other team hitting multiple 3 point shots.

I think in the case of Orlando it was an issue with stretch bigs. Chandler and McGee are good interior defenders but they don't like guarding the three point line. The problems go deeper than that but that certainly hurt with the Magic.

We're 18th defending the 3pt shot. Not great, not trash. Just average...

With the switching, it usually results in someone being able to get free from the 3 point line where no one recovers . Overall, it usually doesn't hurt them because most teams have been missing those shots. Orlando shot a mediocre 35% and it seemed good by comparison.

The Lakers are outshooting their opponents from 3 and their own percentage and the opponent percentage are both trending in the right direction.

I'll speculate holes in the defense on chasing shooters and closeouts when they get the ball. How often do you see wide open shooters and barely a response from Laker defenders.

Blame it on effort or scheme but average NBA shooters are going to have a better % when they can causally shoot instead of being concerned with rushing to avoid a hand in their face.

Our bigs defend the paint, not the perimeter.

Also, Josh Hart is kind of cursed.

Wasn't there an article or such stating that 3 point defense has a lot of variance to it and there's a luck factor? Because the offensive %s swing game to game?
