Rough first game: 5 points on 1-8 shooting (1-6 from 3). He'll definitely need some time to knock off the rust. _________________ Under New Management |

Not today. It will be on their next game next Saturday on Spectrum at 5. |
I checked Spectrum but they have Backstage Chargers on. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

On the positive side - 3 assists for Moe.

Plus a block and a steal.
Biggest positive is he could play 21 minutes at starting center, and stayed on the court as long as Bonga and Caruso. If his knee feels fine tomorrow that's a bigger deal than the rust.
But yeah that's a pretty rusty stat line on the scoring side. |

A couple of months! I want to see him on the court in a week or two.
Apparently Wagner has already been playing 5 on 5. He needs a few games to get some conditioning and game speed adjustment. Should be ready for 10mpg fairly soon. Whether he can actually contribute is the key.
Will be interesting if the Lakers can effectively piece together 48 mins between McGee, Williams and Wagner. |
^ This. ^ Plus, I'm really hoping to see Beez get some run, at the backup 4 position. He's been looking lost out there, admittedly. But, got to give him some burn, if he's going to learn. Also, coaches get to learn if he's a keeper, or not. |
Don't get me wrong here - I do think Wagner's going to be good in the long run, but he's a rookie with no training camp, no summer of conditioning, no scrimmages with others at the Laker facility, and he did not shoot well in Summer League. It was also clear he needed to add strength. He simply didn't look ready before his injury, and I think he's less ready now because he had to take it easy on the knee.
I'm glad Mo's knee is better, hopefully fully recovered. I really love his attitude, hustle, and personality on and off the court. And we do need a shooter. But do you really think he's going to be ready in a matter of days and not weeks?
Let's see how he progresses with South Bay first. I'll gladly change my mind if he starts to dominate. |

He is our only hope and last excuse for the front office not signing an adequate backup center in the summer. |

If we're counting on Wagner to contribute this year we're in big trouble. |

He doesn't provide us what we are lacking. That player was Randle and/or Brook. We have no physicality inside. |

It's going to take a few seasons before Mo reaches his full potential.
He'll eventually see some NBA action this year but the G-League is a great proving ground. He'll be fine..
We need to be patient because he won't contribute too much this season but he has the skills to be a good NBA player. |

He can give us just as much, and likely more than Williams, especially if we give him the opportunity to learn on the job. Dude is scrappy, taller than any player on our roster not named McGre or Zubac, can rebound and is a good shooter. That's enough to get him some playing time as the back up 5. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Is he strong enough to defend the post and box out? |

He couldn't even do that in summer league. He was getting tossed around regularly. |

Wagner can help us this season but we shouldn’t ignore the fact that we need a established back up C, there will be quite a few available this year either via trade or buyout. |

The two can happen at the same time. We will need something to cover the next two months before we can start trading guys like Beasley or Lance.
And Mo is bigger and stronger than Williams. If Williams can help us and guard bugs, certainly Mo can just as good and likely better. _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service

Then he's not the answer. Not that I expected much from a rookie. |

Don’t think we will trade Lance, he seems to be playing with a new focus with LeBron, Beasley and KCP will likely be the guys we dangle and perhaps 1 of our young players.
Mo should be able to help us since he’s a guy who can benefit from the fast pace we are trying to play. |

It's not out of the realm of possibility that he's the 2nd best shooter on the team, though |

He's not stronger. He was getting knocked off his spot in the summer league while Williams was much more effective boxing guys out in the paint. He's bigger yes, but his lower body is a year or two of strength training away from being NBA ready. |

Man this is way earlier than I expected. Even the patient (sometimes to a fault) FO can't wait longer Was worried that we would get destroyed by Dwight Powell and Mejiri (if he's still there) like last year. I think Mo will do alright. Hopefully we are up big so we can ease in his minutes. |

good news is he really can't make our current backup center situation any worse. |

He should be an upgrade over Williams for backup 5 but he's not a great rebounder which is our biggest issue when McGee is out. |

He can help space the floor more and bring the center further out. They don't even bother having a man on Williams near the three line. |

Michael Beasley remains with family and away from the team. Rookie Moritz Wagner is available to play for the first time this season. Luke Walton, though, made it sound as if Wagner will play only if needed or if the game isn't close.
