Eh, not really. He was there for the Marc Jackson era. If you really want to pin-point a catalyst to contention it would be the hiring of Kerr. |

Yep. The GS fanbase went nuts when West traded Monte Ellis, (bleep) about drafting Draymond Green, and were in full hate mode after he fired Mark Jackson, hired Steve Kerr and cockblocked the owner from trading Klay Thompson for KLove.
Then the team comes together and explodes and everyone loves him and finally recognizes the genius after having talked so much s##t beforehand. |

You really believe Jerry west “sold” GS to KD? Lol |
From Durant’s own words. But you obviously know little about West. |
Oh come on, you really believe KD gonna say ring chasing was the main reason he signed with GS? What’s better than throw West’s name out there to make the signing seem less cowardly. |

Some of you are really clueless not showing proper respect to Jerry West. GSW would have strongly considered trading Klay Thompson for Kevin Love if it wasnt for West.....so many dumb millenials |

Really, you were in those meetings? I believe he only flew up there once a month considering he wasn't their VP or GM. |

Clippers have made some decent moves to move on from the CP3/Blake era, but they have made some head scratching ones as well. The Gallinari signing when you know his injury history. Signing Avery Bradley for two years when you should conserve cap space for 2019.
I also question if they should have just gone into full tank mode last year which could have nabbed them an impact player. This year they probably are too good to be at the bottom again but not good enough to make the playoffs. That is usually not a position you want to be in with veteran players leading you. |

Reportedly he threatened to quit if they made that deal....you know similar to the threat he made to Jerry Buss that he would quit if Buss went through with the Worthy for Aguirre and Tarpley deal. When it comes to talent evaluation, I am not putting Earvin Johnson above Jerry West. Anyone who thinks so is clueless

We'll see if West can convince Durant to join the Clippers next offseason. If it was all him, he should be able to do that, right? |

Jerry West was and is one of the most accomplished front office minds the NBA has ever seen....those that are trying to diminish him for any reason are classless. Maybe it would have worked here, maybe it would not have. Maybe Magic and Rob will win titles without him, but they will very likely never reach the level admiration as a front office executives as Jerry West has maintained throughout the NBA for decades. I personally would always feel more comfortable with West's voice in the decision making process. |

You're quite mistaken sir.
May 20, 2011 GSW hires Jerry West.
June 23, 2011 Jerry advises Bob Myers to draft Klay Thompson if still available. He is, they do.

March 6, 2014 Jerry West gets beloved coach Mark Jackson fired.
(Jackson was popular to the fanbase and had just turned the team around from the bottom of the league 23-45 record to giving the Spurs a tough 2nd round series in the 2013 playoffs)

And this should be quoted at any of these people that decide to disrespect Jerry's "old mind" that "has nothing left to offer" or flat out disrespecting his basketball mind in general.
Then again, given what he did here and in Golden State it shouldn't have been questioned anyway. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Probably around those lines.
The Busses are familiar with Logo and he's had his differences with the org and has threatened to leave if certain trades were made and he HAS left and there was the situation with Phil that couldn't be fixed. Logo is sensitive. Legends like West have their own styles and ways and from time to time, he even disagreed with Dr. Buss and had the clout to get his way more often than not. Maybe the new FO was ready to cleave themselves from the past. Maybe all the particulars involved felt it was better to move beyond the possible dynamics that West would've brought. I'm sure if West were actually here and things went awry with Brawn, there'd be the usual finicky kitties among us who'd be complaining about how the FO should've had the foresight and/or boldness to move into the future on their own. You can always count on the 20/20 hindsight. That's what I love about LG! _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Oops I forgot one. The Andrew Bogut trade was pivitol for GSW's current success. Although Bogut played quite well, West traded him off for capspace on the longshot that they could lure Kevin Durant. No one thought he could pull that off because of the stigma of leaving OKC to join the WC nemesis but whatever Jerry told him worked quite well. The rest is history.
Theres actually several other key moves I'm forgetting. I'll tack those on later. |

Technically Bogut wasn't traded until after Kevin Durant announced he agreed to sign with the Warriors. |

Maybe my reading comprehension is off (the weather is close to hell now), but where in those articles does it say anything close to those headlines (which you made up). The choice was actually Barnes over Dummond, not Dray, who went in the second round, btw.

These guys acting like Bob Meyers wasn't there.
Jerry West did great things.
Let him ride off into the sunset with that in your minds.
We don't need him now though. |

He's a HoFer both as a player and as an executive. No one is disputing this. There's no reason to just make (bleep) up, though

Those events are not uncommon knowledge.
Was going by memory of those events as they happened and just posted whatever the first link i could find to confirm the dates.
I definitely remember all the talk before and after Mark Jackson's firing and how it pointed at him trying to ban Jerry West from his practices.
4/30/14 Mark Jackson reported saying that he doesn't want Jerry West at practices.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2046483-report-mark-jackson-doesnt-want-jerry-west-attending-team-activities
6 days later he's fired.
https://www.si.com/nba/point-forward/2014/05/06/mark-jackson-fired-golden-state-warriors-joe-lacob
I do remember all the talk beforehand that Jerry West believed they hit a ceiling with Mark Jackson and something needed to change. |
