The arena decides to poach concerts from the Forum by offering organizers a cheaper fee. It won't matter if the Forum has better acoustics, if the promoter finds they can make more money they will move an event across the street to the newer arena.
Also read a report that the LA stadium business is very competitive, they have way more venues than events. If you look around the LA area, here are the venues that can hold around 20k+ concert goers
Rose Bowl
LA Coliseum
Staples Center
Stubhub Center
Forum
Dodger Stadium
Angel Stadium
Anaheim Pond
Upcoming:
Inglewood Stadium
Banc of California Stadium
Potential new Clippers Arena |

Seriously?
Because that basketball team will play in a state-of-the-art arena that will only be booked 41 nights a year. What else are they gonna book there? Oh yeah, the same kinds of things the Forum does currently. |

Gonna be interesting how this turns out. If MSG manages to win the lawsuit Ballmer will have to resume his search for a new arena. Also the mayor of Inglewood has egg on his face. |

I think Balmer did it on purpose.
He loses the lawsuit. Then he plays the "I tried to stay in LA but was denied!" card. Then he moves team to Seattle. Everyone lives happily ever after, except for Clipper Darrel.

No NBA team is going to move to the Key Arena no matter how they renovate it. That building has been renovated once before back in 1995 and it was outdated after 10 years. The arena is too small for modern day NBA teams. A renovated Key Arena proposal was floated before the Sonics moved to OKC If an NBA team is going back to Seattle it will be because they were able to build a brand new arena with all the latest amenities. |

That is another proposal. Like I said the Key Arena renovations are dead for any NBA teams considering the design and capacity limitations of Key Arena. |

I'm sure Ballmer would love to move from LA to Seattle and see his franchise value immediately decrease by a billion dollars. |

The problem is the NBA won't get a new arena in Seattle, the last one was rejected....so they would have to play in the renovated Key Arena that is being rebuilt for a possible expansion NHL team. Will this new rebuilt arena be good enough for the NBA who knows? |

Inglewood? What is it with the Clipper franchise choosing to live in the shadow of superior teams? _________________ -Avenue of the Champions- -RIP Dr Buss- #824 |

I'm sure Ballmer would love to move from LA to Seattle and see his franchise value immediately decrease by a billion dollars. |
Given his personal wealth, if he has no intention of ever selling the team, the valuation doesn't matter. He could go to Seattle and be a hero for bringing the Sonics back or remain in LA and be a joke franchise that will forever be an afterthought.
He has repeatedly brought up the valuation as the reason he won't move, and maybe he feels like the challenge of turning the Clips into a legit franchise is something he relishes. But he's never lived in LA when the Lakers have it rolling, so it wouldn't surprise me if he moved to Seattle once he sees how truly dominant the Lakers are in the LA market when they are firing on all cylinders.
At some point when a person has that much money, they start thinking about legacy, and bringing the Sonics back would be meaningful for the folks up there, as opposed to battling with the Ducks, Angels, Galaxy etc for a spot in the lower rung of LA sports interest, miles below the Lakers. |

He should go to Vegas. I've always had sympathy for the Sonics, specially during the 90s, wouldn't like to hate them |

Considering Las Vegas already has a brand new arena that would be much easier than moving to Seattle....
Now the NBA just has to swallow its pride about disassociating with gambling. |

They would pretty much have to do what they are doing to the Key Arena for that to happen. Which is dig a bigger hole in the ground and leave the facade of the arena untouched. The problem is that you are restricted by the current dimensions of the arena. I'm sure with current NBA amenities, they want something that provides a lot of fan comfort and the Forum was built for when Americans were much slimmer... |

I wonder if they will consider Inglewood. |
Why do the Dodgers need a new facility? Dodger Stadium is still a great place for baseball. |
It's just what I've read over the years. |
No offense to Dodgers fans but their stadium is horrible, worst stadium I have ever been to. Way out dated compared to anything out West. |

I am a born-and-raised Doyer fan just like I am a Laker fan and I still hate going our to the Ravine. Once I'm in the arena, everything's great but getting to, in and out of there is a cluster cuss. _________________ We back. |

I'll always have love for the Ravine, but after going some other stadiums, Dodger Stadium lacks a lot.
It's a nightmare to get in and out of, there's no good public transportation to get there and there's nothing around it.
ATT park in SF, Fenway in Boston and, obviously, Wrigley are great. The atmosphere in the bars and restaurants around the park before the game is insane. At Dodger stadium, you drive, park, go to your seat, then get a $15 beer. That's probably why most fans aren't in their seats until the 3rd inning!
With such huge parking lots, I wish they'd build stuff there (bars, restaurants etc). But with McCourt owning those lots and the fact they'd be basically empty from November - March likely means that'll never happen. |
