|
|
Raja Bell has now entered the same stratosfear as the King of Flop: Manu Ginobili. He was flopping like a fish all night against the Mavs tonight and that little punk gets calls on most of his flops. It was good to see the TNT team calling him out on it repeatedly tonight. What is frustrating is the refs continually fall for it. They don't know by now that he's acting most of the time?

I don't understand why that type of play keeps getting rewarded over and over again.
It is sad and a real plague on the sport in my opinion.

I hate Raja Bell as much as the next guy. I used to hate Stockton too for flopping and doing all the dirty stuff. However, NBA's charging calls definitely have been watered down considerably. Players in the old days used to take real charges and pay for them by sacrificing their bodies but nowdays players like Bell just falls down whenever an offensive player backs him down. |

it would be very difficult for refs to stop the flop. however i think instituting a plan where if it is shown thru video evidence that you flopped its a huge fine and if its caught during a game its a technical foul + possession...it would cut down the problem greatly. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Come on guys,
It's Manu by a nose!
Seriously, Ginoboli acts like he's been "capped" by a shotgun, every time someone breathes on him. His antics are more than annoying. _________________ "Look Dad, I did it". "Look Mommy, I can ride my bike without the training wheels" and so on and so on. STOP IT SPURS FANS.

Bell, not only does he flop, he then gets on camera and whines about what a beating he takes. |

Tony Parker, but Ginobli pisses me off a lot aswell. Raja sucks at flopping, he's just good at making sad expressions to the referee. |

Im so glad someone brought this topic up. The flopping that is going on in the playoffs is disgusting, especially Bell. I cant understand why refs continue to reward these guys with calls, when they take the easy way out and flop, rather than to man up and play hard nose defense. Everytime someone posts up Bell, they provide the passer a target hand and use an arm-bar with the other hand as everyone has been taught growing up playing the game, but as soon as Bell tries to get around the guy or 3/4 guard him, he just goes to the groung like he's been shot. I wish they would put in a rule that if the ref catches you flopping you should get a personal foul. The other aspect of this that annoys me, is that it doent reward good defense. Defense is making the opponent work hard for a shot, by putting pressure on him and forcing him to change direction. But the floppers just take a 50/50 guess as to which way the player is gonna go, and majority of the time the arent even squarely in front of them, and just fall backwards to the floor, absolutley disgusts me.
Here's a prefect example of the flopping thats out of control. A player takes a hard driblle right, and then as soon as he's cut off, spin dribbles to his left. Easy basic play everyone is taught as a youth. In the NBA as soon as the guy gets close to cutting him off, he flops, charge, ball going the other way. Michael Cooper has to be ashamed that these guys like Bell get credit for being great defensive players. |

Could you imagine pulling this crap on the playground?!?!? Your man would just step right over (or on) your ass and laugh at you. It's the most un-manly way to 'play defense', I wish they'd do something about it...most annoying part of the game. Let's start writing letters to the league office, not just compaining, but offering suggestions on how to cut down on that crap. |

I believe Raja's flopping is more effective. I mean, on one end he is ultra aggressive which makes the opposing player believe that is how he needs to play. Then bam! Next time he flops and draws the charge because of his man's aggression. Kind of smart if you ask me, but pisses me off because he gets away with it. At least with Ginobli he isn't a b*#@%. |

Bell. the difference is they are giving Dirk the benefit of the doubt and not calling it, why didn't Kobe get the same respect? _________________ "When (Kobe) gets you on life support, he won't give you mouth to mouth. HE PULLS THE PLUG." -stu |

I agree. It hurts the game tremendously. Often times new basketball fans can even pick up on it and ask why they "flop." IMO it's not a very effective way to reach new audience. _________________ Free advertising in Jefe's signature. Inquire within. |

I think if you put your shoulder into another player's chest and he flops, if the contact was severe enough, call the charge. But gravity says that if you barely touch a player and he falls down on his own, you don't call the crap.
Like when Kobe was in the post and Raja had great position and all of a sudden, Kobe's knocks him down with one arm and his back turned to Raja? Huh?
Flopping was used in the 80s, but Vlade took it to a whole new level. Bob Horry gets his fair share as well. |
