Kiki may not be as hot a prospect as people think - - at least for the better franchises. This is a guy that drafted Skita with the number four pick, as big a bust in recent memory. Even Darko can play and get minutes -- witness his production in Orlando. Skita could not even get minutes with his old coach.
And the K-Mart deal is a disaster. A max deal, and trading away picks, for a dude that makes zero difference to the Nugs. Their record is excellent without him. And he's injured. And ineffective against the bigger power forwards that populate the West. And he sold out his team with his petulance right when they needed him most. Sorry, but an owner has to look at the fact that all Kiki really did was clear cap space (losing a lot of games in the process), and make a decent trade that led to the draft of Nene (and then promptly botched that by bringing in Kenyon and by design limiting Nene's minutes - - which hurt his development). Now, Nene is simply going to go to the highest bidder. He has no real larger loyalty to the Nuggets - - despite what he or his agent may say to keep things on an even keel publically.
Andre Miller and Boykins don't work together. Kiki had multiple seasons to find a shooter - - and he could not.
Kiki is a good politician, a glib interview, and probably a good dude in general. But as a GM, his record is certainly mixed. And the Nuggets have their precious cap space tied up in Martin, who will be impossible to trade unless Isiah has one of his occasional brain farts. |

co-sign.
drafting tskitishvilli over amare stoudemire & a half dozen other players that have evolved into solid players in the nba. (wilcox, fred jones, jared jeffries, caron butler)
overpaying kmart by about 60 million dollars.
failing for 3 years to find a decent shooter to put at the 2 guard to compliment carmelo.
he got lucky with the mcdyess for camby & nene trade. and any person with half a brain could have drafted carmelo.
beyond that, i'm not impressed.
portland was dying to get rid of patterson, and seattle had no use for reggie evans. and both those players are useless to the nuggets. (the positions are already filled with good players) - and now they have to pay patterson 7 million dollars next season.
hopefully whoever the nuggets hire next will be better.
(and it won't be george karl...he doesn't want any part of being a gm) |
