Rookie Ebanks cashes in on NBA chance with Lakers

Devin Ebanks stayed ready through the drawn-out NBA lockout. The former West Virginia star knew adjusting to the league in what was expected to be a shortened season wasn’t going to be easy for a second-year player with little experience.
"I was pretty excited when they lifted the lockout and got a chance to play,” Ebanks said. “I was ready to play the whole time.”
The 6-foot-9, 215-pound Long Island City native made the most of his opportunity. Ebanks was drafted in the second round by the Lakers in 2010 and by midseason was playing right alongside the likes for Kobe Bryant, Metta World Peace and Pau Gasol. He appeared in 24 games, averaging 16.5 minutes, 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds.

Ebanks wasn't a rookie but nice read anyway

Jim Buss spouts nonsense with claim Lakers can win championship without major changes

The season ended with everyone expecting some sort of change, including Bryant, who said, "We've built title teams pretty quickly ... we just have to do it again."

And now Buss announces that he's not planning on building anything? Yet in the same story he says that he and Bryant are on the same page? It feels as if they're in different organizations.

"I think changes are going to be made moving Pau lower to the basket," Buss said. "We can improve that way with a change in coaching strategy rather than change in personnel."

Oh, so now Buss is blaming the problems on the guy he hired instead of the pieces he gave him? Buss is having enough trouble running this team, he shouldn't try to coach it. Questioning Brown's strategy is also an odd comment considering later in the interview, he praises Brown for doing a "fantastic" job under the circumstances.

"We will try to sign Sessions when the rules allow beginning in July," said Buss.

Lakers' Kobe Bryant Wears World's Most Popular NBA Jersey

Five-time world champion and Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant had the top-selling NBA Jersey internationally this past season, according to a league report Wednesday. The list was based on sales at Adidas locations outside the United States and marks the first time the NBA has ever compiled this information.

Bryant topped Chicago’s Derrick Rose and Miami’s LeBron James for first place. Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic rounded out the top five. Exact sales figures were not released.

Bill is acting more like a hot head fan than a writer here. He never considered the possibility that Brown told Jim he was going to try to move Pau back into the post, he assumes this was all Jim's doing because it feeds into his rant.

GM/Coaching strategies aside, the article is a hack job.

This has got to be the stupidest explanation on how to "adjust". Just move Pau closer to the basket??? Wow, what a move, what a visionary! You would think that Mike Brown making $4 million a year could have noticed this and just adjusted his offense (or lack thereof) to compensate the lack of scoring........ But to be honest this is never an issue... We just need more than the total ineptness we have in management and coaching. It starts from the top and it trickles down to the players.......... But seriously the interviewer should have said, "BUT ISNT THAT A NORMAL INGAME ADJUSTMENT? ISNT THAT AN ADJUSTMENT HIGH SCHOOL COAHES DO EVERYDAY?"

Totally agree, even in the 'on the same page' comment Kobe did say he felt the core was good enough to compete so that's how they are on the same page... while i agree things may not appear great with their relationship he should have at least tried to draw this parallel. He's fishing for ways to bash buss...

What to expect from Kobe Bryant at age 34

Jim Buss told T.J. Simers recently to expect the same core of players on the Lakers roster next season.

Kobe Bryant turns 34 in August, and he's already played in 1,381 regular season and playoff games in his 16 seasons with the Lakers. Given all that mileage, what kind of production can the Lakers expect from Bryant in 2012-13?

Based on a study of some other Hall of Famer scorers and how they performed at age 34, the answer is -- quite a lot.

Look at the per-game statistics of these great players at age 34, versus their career numbers. It shows that even during the NBA equivalent of advanced middle age, they still performed close to their best.

Julius Erving; MP; FG%; 3P%; FT%; RPG; APG; PTS;

At age 34: 34.8; 51.2% 33.3%; 75.4%; 6.9; 4.0; 22.4;

Career average: 38.4; 50.6%; 29.8%; 77.7% 8.5; 4.2; 24.2;

Michael Jordan; MP; FG%; 3P%; FT%; RPG; APG; PTS;

At age 34: 37.9; 48.6%; 37.4%; 83.3%; 5.9; 4.3; 29.6 (led league)

Career average: 38.3; 49.7%; 32.7%; 83.5%; 6.2; 5.3; 30.1;

Jerry West; MP; FG%; 3P%; FT%; RPG; APG; PTS;

At age 34: 38.6; 47.7%; --- 81.4%; 4.2; 9.7; 25.8;

Career average: 39.2; 47.7%; --- 81.4%; 5.8; 6.7; 27.0;

Kobe Bryant: MP; FG%; 3P %; FT%; RPG; APG; PTS;

Career average: 36.5; 45.3%; 33.7%; 83.8%; 5.3; 4.7; 25.4;

Kobe will be at 27-30 range, he had a bad season when we got swept and 2011-12 season showed he still got it. almost averaged 28 ppg with the tough schedule and injuries. Averaged over 30 ppg with the mask after the concussion.
