i have to specify that mike d'antoni and joe bryant were never teammates... jelly bean played here in italy, as a scoring machine, while mike was every year the mvp of italian league... bob mcadoo was d'antoni's teammate... the weirdest thing is that when mike was the playmaker here in milan, the team always played a very classical and controlled style... then after his second year as coach, when he had darryl dawkins as center, mike chose a free, running, beyond the roles, system, with a sf at 4 and a very dynamic center...

They can run with like 4 pgs and a SF, thats a good system.

I think Diaw is now the starting center for them, if only we still had Shaq he would get 50 against that small ball team!!

He couldn't score 50 if he was all by himself and no defenders on him!

Why is my thread still getting reactions???

I might be biased as I had premiere tickets to Shaq's 61 Birthday Bash game in March of 2000 against the Clipps. I saw what Shaq could do agianst the likes of Pete Chilcut and Mo Taylor, etc. A good game for Shaq at age 34 nowadays is probably 26 pts, 10 rebs, 2 blocks. Shaq in his prime against Pho would be curtains to the "small ball" game the Suns use.

Thomas is probably not available to the Lakers. I had heard the Lakers were one of the favorites, because they have part of the MLE left. However, I can't blame Thomas if he wants to win.

Joking right? Shaq can't even run with that kind of tempo and conditioning.

Playing uptempo, fast-break basketball, is the ultimate philosophy to playing around dominant bigmen. The tough part is just getting rebounds.

How do you think the Lakers got by Bird, McHale, and Parish for so long?

The Suns were a lottery team prior to last season. Hopefully, the Lakers will also change as quickly.

About Tim Thomas, he seems like he'd be redundant with that team. Another complementary perimeter player. The Suns need a couple legit bigs who can rebound, play D, and give them size and a presence inside. That should be all they need once Amare comes back.

Beg to differ, slav. 2 years ago, he was primarily an inside player for the Knicks, avergaing 15 points a game. He's 6-10, 240, and has more than few post moves. Granted, he doesn't play D worth a darn, but he can be a legit #2 or #3 go-to-scorer-on-the-floor inside -- maybe not for starter's minutes, but certainly for 15-20 a game.

The suns are fascinating because they are one of the only teams out there that truly challenge other teams to adapt TO THEM. They really don't seem to care about how they match up with other teams and instead relentlessly force other teams to make the switch. It's really smart considering there are very few quality big men in the league. Who could they possibly get to stop someone like Duncan or Shaq? Might as well turn that weakness into an advantage by getting a bunch of guys who can run right past them or shoot over them from distance.

So they are one of the few teams out there that I don't think really needs to add a big man. Thomas isn't necessarily redundant for them, he just gives them yet another flexible weapon to throw out there. Steve Nash has to be just jizzing all over himself getting Amare back and getting Thomas who can play both inside and out. I've never been a Tim Thomas fan, but he's a perfect fit for their system.

Steve Nash has to be just jizzing all over himself
...had to force read the rest.

Still not a good mental picture...may need hypnotherapy, prozac, and perhaps tai-chi.
