It didn’t dawn on me nor as anyone really mentioned it, but Cook could be and should be the Lakers #2 scorer. Mihm’s injury has resulted in Cook proving he should get “starter-minutes”. Furthermore, Cook freed Kobe up on the offense.
Keep LO at the small forward and start Cook at power forward. Once Mihm gets healthy, Mihm starts at center with Kwame coming off the bench and getting backup minutes at center and power forward.
Parker / Sasha / Wafer
Kobe / Mckie / Green
Odom / George / Walton
Cook / Turiaf / Slava
Mihm / Kwame / Bynum
Consider the Laker players stats per 48 minutes...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/teams/stats?team=lal&sort=pts&split=0&avg=48&order=true&season=2&seasonYear=2006
Cook has the second most average points per 48 minutes.
Cook's rebounds & assist to turn over ratio are also solid.
This demonstrates what Cook can do given the same amount of playing time as the other Laker players.
NAME PTS RBD A/TO
K. Bryant 42.1 6.6 1.33
B. Cook 19.6 8 1.18
C. Mihm 18.8 12 0.63
L. Profit 18 7.5 0.63
L. Odom 17.2 11.4 1.91
S. Parker 16.2 4.4 1.77
D. George 14.2 8.1 1.54
V. Wafer 13 5.2 4
A. Bynum 12.4 12.4 0.33
L. Walton 11.3 8.9 2.56
K. Brown 10.9 11.2 0.55
S. Vujacic 10.1 5.1 2.86
D. Green 8.9 9.4 1.25
A. McKie 1.8 7.7 3

i think he can average 20 pts. yes i said it. face it guys that is not gonna be hard for him. kobe gets doulbed all the time. just run a lot of pick and pop. he is a reliable shooter, our only reliable shooter. if he gets enough mins he can put up 20 pts easy until teams learn to stay home w/ him and then kobe just has more room to operate. its a win win situation _________________ SMUSH FOR MVP |

I think that would be a good starting lineup espcially the way Cook has been playing the last couple games. Will this offensive consistency hold up? Probably not, but heres hoping! |

the good thing about him is that he shoots at a high FG% & he doesn't hesitate to shoot. |

I wouldn't go that far. A spot shooter is rarely a 2nd option. More like a 3rd option.
What this does is it should all but FORCE Phil to use Odom or Bryant in the post more so Cookie can just spot up .....
The Dallas commentators were really talking up Cook last night. They were saying how he and Odom should switch positions on offense. That Brian needs to play out on the perimeter more and Odom more in the post. |

I don't know if he can keep up with his scoring run right now, he might just disappear in the next game. |

Oh man!!! The Cook love fest. Never thought I'd see the day.
We really need to start using the frontcourt of Cook and Kwame more often togheter. They open each other's games up VERY well.
But ONLY when Kwame is palying motivated D. _________________ Stephon Marbury on Kobe: "He's the only person on 'dis earth that can do 'dat. He guards people, like shuts 'em down. Then, to do 'dat on 'da offensive end. It's like 'Damn, I can't score on him AND he about to bust my ass." |

And when you don't have guards that penetrate or run the ball much.
NO and Dal have guys that can get inside the paint with ease.
Houston doesn't really have that as much ...

Good point. I'd just like to see it out there for a more fluid offensive stretch. _________________ Stephon Marbury on Kobe: "He's the only person on 'dis earth that can do 'dat. This is a joke right? Teams will figure out Cook if he keeps nailing the open jumpers on consistent basis. Right now, he's being dared to shoot because no teams are respecting him. He's a one-dimensional player who's value to a team is nil if his shots aren't falling.
If anything, tonight showed what this team could be capable of with a legitimate second scoring option, and how badly they need one. |

Please.
He's a spot shooter who can't hit with a hand in his face - he won't even try to shoot 99% of the time there is a hand in his face.
The guy is very easy to solve - don't leave him open. Do that and he's toast.
Just keep in mind that there are better defenders out there than Juwan Howard and Dirk Nowitzki. |

Cook is shooting
.513 FG% and .456% 3P%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can you not give Cook starter-minutes?
Until the Lakers find someone other than Kobe who can score in the paint or drive the ball, while putting up over .500 FG%, then start Cook at the power forward and bring Kwame off the bench as a backup for Cook and / or Mihm.
Until Odom, George or Kwame start shooting over .500 FG%, give Cook an opportunity to be that second scoring threat the Lakers DESPERATELY need.

Agreed, I think he has come up huge, last nite (even though they lost) and tonite. Just give him Kwames spot and make Kwame come off the bench.
I liked how they played tonite and hope that this is the beginning of the big push for the playoffs! _________________ "Hate that I'm a veteran and a champion, hate that.

Against a top tier post PF Cook would be on the bench late in the 2nd qtr with 4 fouls. Duncan, J'Oneal etc. |

Mihm should be the second scoring option. Inside out is the way to win in this league, and Mihm's jump hook has really been impressive. If teams double Kobe, and double Mihm in the post, Cook can shoot open jumpers all night. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

If you don't think Cook would make a better starter, who do you want shooting outside jumpshots? Odom, George, Walton or Kwame?
Keep in mind, the suggestion was to bring Kwame off the bench for backup minutes behind Cook and / or Mihm. Odom, George and the other players should not have their minutes affected by Cook starting. Only Kwame is losing minutes and that doesn't appear to be a big factor at this point unless we need a big man to guard Shaq, Ben Wallace or Yao. |

Cook doesn't play defense or rebound well enough to warrant a starting position. If he's on, he would be a tremendous sixth man off the bench. The Lakers just aren't a good enough defensive team to hide his deficiencies. |

Thats the point. Once teams respect him, and start guarding him they won't be able to double up on KB, and plus it will spread the Tri. Its win win |
