The Lakers REALLY screwed things up earlier in the season when they lost close games against sub-.500 teams because they were lazy on D and couldn't get 2 or 3 stops in the final minutes. Because of that, they will finish no better than the #2 seed in the West and will have to fight the rest of the way to stay close to Boston.
I guess that's the price we pay as fans rooting for back-to-back champions. I'll take it though. _________________ 1996-2016

Wasted great defensive effort by Lamar.
Dirk was 5/15 = 14pts on 30% shooting
Lamar was 8/14 = 20 pts on 57%
Pau was hot early too
Pau 11/16 = 23pts on 69% _________________ Before Lamar trade: Lakers-57 wins (2011)

Putting Luke in the game is like playing 4 on 5. There really is absolutely no reason for a team to respect his offense or defense.
But even still, pinning this loss on Luke is very unfair. It takes a team effort to mentally collapse towards the end of the 3rd. The team's offense showed up a bit in the 4th, but that does that little good when you go down double digits and can't get consistent stops. And honestly, that's what concerns me about this squad. You're going to have stretches where you offense stagnates, it's normal. The key then is making sure your defense stays consistent enough so you don't go from a 8 point lead to a 10 point deficit in the matter of minutes. I'm not sure what the issue is here. If it's simply apathy, then you hope the team comes out with more focus when the playoffs starts. If it's simply a case of being tired (or not being that good defensively), then that's honestly a difficult issue to fix at this point. The schedule only gets tougher from here on in, and you don't have much of an opportunity to rest. |

I like Bynum but he was not on his game tonight.
Came out strong but faded down the stretch. _________________ Before Lamar trade: Lakers-57 wins (2011)

They'll toss out the idea that they have to do the "little things" to beat the struggling Mavs.
The Lakers better watch out, because the Mavs are due a win. Sometimes teams roar back with big wins when their backs are against the wall - regardless of who they are and how they have been playing.
Let's hope we keep away from cuteness (weak passes and wild shots) in the lane and last second 3's (with an unbalanced defensive position). |
Had to quote myself because this was what I was afraid of prior to the game. |

right on the money. I thought there was a chance this could happen as well.
Lakers seem to feel a ned to be challenged to raise their game at all. |
