I hope we give him a shot and he makes the roster. High reward possibility with no risk. Just drop Karl who is worthless with no upside anyways. |

He was on the Spurs for a cup of coffee. I heard Pop thought he was lazy. |

I remember the uproar that ensued here when the Lakers bypassed White for Farmar. Never was fascinated by the guy. All he could do was dunk and...that's about it. |

I hope Li gets meaningful minutes tomorrow. Big fan of his game. Watch a couple of CBA games of him playing for a few years. Too bad his team let his talent rot last year. |

Hmm, would also be interesting to see how Cedric Bozeman goes
Btw. Does anyone know why Dan Panaggio is taking over as Head Coach in the summer league.. if the Lakers want the young guys to learn the triangle, would'nt it be best to give Kurt and Brian the job to preach the offense again?? |

Glad that the Lakers are showing interest in him. Really thought we should have picked drafted him. Will be nice to see him play and hopefully if he dosent make the team he will play for the D-Fenders and we can see what he can do in the triangle. |

thats over exaggeration at its finest. Odom is a role player. so now what?
but a statement like this goes to show you how wrong a lot of people are about calling LO inconsistent. james white is inconsistent. but i recall that mike thought this guy was great. i knew he could jump out the gym Literally. But that was about it. sure he had other tools. but I could see in his play. couldn't dribble good enough. reminded me of devean george with the ball. and thats not good. jumper was EXTREMELY suspect, passing wasn't bad though.
So SUPER HIGH/Long jumper with speed/quickness, that isn't a Lockdown defender in college, No jumper, no dribbles, decent passing.
why did we think so highly of this guy? i guess because we had luke, and cook on the same team. we were tired of watching borderline non athletes play for us. as you said though mike. if james white can just learn how to play ...bAsketball. then hey he's a good pickup. |

I think that you are reading Mike's comments incorrectly. What I believe he is saying is that James White is a role player who has Lamar Odom syndrome....which is probably not a good combination to have if you're trying to make a roster. It is also why Pops may have inferred that he was lazy.
Just my opinion. |

James White = Von Wafer in that he intrigues a lot of teams with his athleticism, until they find out there is nothing else there and never will be _________________ Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. |

NBA SUMMER LEAGUE: Lakers trim around edges in Vegas
Like last season, NBA finalists use event to examine fringe players
By STEVE CARP
REVIEW-JOURNAL
NBA Summer League
It would be a nice tribute to the NBA Summer League to say it played a part in helping the Los Angeles Lakers reach the NBA Finals this past season.
But general manager Mitch Kupchak wasn't ready to make that leap. He said the summer league's role in his team's run to the Finals was negligible at best. Mostly, the Lakers used the Las Vegas event to populate the far end of their bench.
"I don't want to overdramatize the impact the summer league had on us," Kupchak said, referring to the Lakers' 2-3 record here last year. "Jordan Farmar had a really good summer league and it helped his confidence. Coby Karl added some chemistry to our roster, but frankly, the majority of the players who were with us in the summer league last year weren't around to help us for the most part."
The Lakers, who open summer league play at 5 p.m. today against Detroit at Cox Pavilion, will barely need 10 days in Las Vegas to out fill their roster. The Western Conference champions have 10 guaranteed contracts and could also retain restricted free agents Sasha Vujacic and Ronny Turiaf if they decide to match both players' offer sheets.

Von Wafer, Smush Parker, Kwame Brown. Great athletes, poor ballers.
White spent 5 years in college and 2 in and out of the NBA. If he still does not have a jumper or handles, he is a bust officially at this time. Considering his considerable ahtletic abilities, he must just not be able to "get it" when it comes to playing ball. _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss |

he is what gerald green would've been had green gone to college
if white came straight out of high school he would've been a first round pick imo |

Just an observation, but White has terrible body language during the games. |

It's incredable to me that this guy is wasting all that natural athletic ability. The guy is still skinny as a stick figure. |

Out of curiosity, did this actually happen?
I know he's on the summer league team, but you don't need a contract to be on the squad - or at least its a different contract than the kind you need to be on the training camp roster right?
If he was signed, is there a link to an official announcement? _________________ BORN REBLE |
