Scouting Report
The Cavs have been in a pretty good groove since they beat us in the middle of December. They have been 11-4 but now have to overcome the loss of Sasha Pavlovic, who will be out for about six weeks. In their most recent game – a 2 point home loss to the Phoenix Suns – Ira Newble started in place of Pavlovic. They definitely lose something in the perimeter shooting department with that change.
There are three main areas that we need to impact to beat the Cavs. Obviously the first is LeBron James. There are a multitude of ways that he can hurt the opposition. The first is in transition. He is a threat to rebound the ball and power out on the dribble to lead the break where he can take it coast to coast, run a “drag” screen and roll, or simply penetrate and pitch out to open shooters. In the half-court they will run pick and rolls with James handling (and some with him setting) and they will also isolate him with the ball. These isolations can occur in the low post, on the wing, or at the top. Each location provides different obstacles for the defense but when he is at the top with the ball and a live dribble it is especially difficult. Like with many of the great players, it will be necessary to mix up our coverages to try and keep him guessing. A steady diet of any kind of defense usually doesn’t work with the great ones.
The second area of concern is center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. He is a big long player and is capable in the low post or in pick and pop actions. They like to try and go to him early to make sure he is involved in the game so we need to be ready to defend him without fouling. If he is able to put our big men in foul trouble it could make for a long afternoon.
The third area is rebounding, especially on the offensive end of the floor. In the game at Cleveland we gave up 15 offensive rebounds which is too many. Anderson Varejao is capable of creating multiple extra possessions in a game for the Cavs with his offensive rebounds, his active hands tipping the ball, and by taking charges (flopping). We cannot let him out-work and out-hustle us.
This is a much better defensive team than when we saw them a little more than a month ago. They do a good job of keeping a ‘foot in the paint’. It kind of makes their man-to-man defense seem like your facing a zone when it comes time to penetrate. We really need to move the ball from side to side to get opportunities. In the game at Cleveland they tried to pressure our ball handlers and deny our wing entry passes. When this happens, regardless of what play is called, we should switch into our sequence of “Automatics”. These options are designed as pressure release actions and if everyone executes it can get some easy baskets for us.

Notes
The Lakers currently trail the season series with Cleveland 0-1 after losing last season’s series with the Cavaliers (0-2) for the first time since the 1998-99 season (0- 1). This will be the 93rd meeting between the two teams with the Lakers holding a 55- 37 series advantage. The Lakers are 5-5 in their last 10 overall games against the Cavaliers and have lost in each of their last four meetings. The Lakers are 7-1 against the Cavaliers all-time at STAPLES Center with last season’s 2/15/07 loss to Cleveland snapping a seven-game home win streak. On the road against the Cavaliers, the Lakers have gone 4-6 in their last 10 games but have lost four straight in Cleveland. Under head coach Phil Jackson, the Lakers are 10-5 against Cleveland.... _________________ The only thing standing between me and greatness, is me. |

40+ points is good enough, hopefully Odom can at least put up 10, while Fish picks up the slack. |

40 isn't enough. He's never had one of those crazy games against LeBron. Now it's time. Grab your competition by their throat and squeeze the life out of them _________________ Crazy yes......Nostrodamus no way because my predictions fail!!!!! |

It would be great to see that kinda performance again from Kobe, but that highly unlikely to happen when teams are throwing everything but the kitchen sink to stop Kobe nowadays.

We will win fellas and ladies. I just hope we don't blow them out too much. Seriously though, I hope it is a good game.
Oh, it's good to get one of these early games too. Now I don't have to wait till 7:00pm to get bloody drunk and pee myself. |

I really hope that Odom can get his shot back. We are going to need to give Kobe some help tonight. _________________ Monta Ellis: "Kobe is #1, I'm #2, LeBron is #3." |

Watching the pre-game of the Boston/Orlando matchup.
I think Dwight Howard might be the best teammate to have in the entire universe.
Great guy. |

I love these national games that are in the afternoon, they are my favorite. I don't like the 6:30 ones. This seems like a really good game, I hope Odom and Fisher can put up 15 a piece, at least, to take pressure off of Kobe. |

I wouldn't mind taking another great big guy from Orlando.
Oh, did you hear him say "Oh god, I'm gonna get beat up" after making fun of Shaq? |

The key is getting 6 guys in double figures. I believe we are 13-0 when doing so.
If Kobe can get another12 for 25 or 13 for 27 type shooting night, with a couple 3's and about 10 made freethrows for about 36 to 38, to go along with 5 other guys getting 10 to 15 we will prevail....
But if Bron gets it going,I want to see an ol' fashioned shoot-em up between them,I know it's against the whole team thing, but,it sure would be fun.
But in the end, unless Kobe is red hot,he will need to be assertive while being efficient, while mixing in the team game....

Now top that off with a Lakers win and this could be the best double header ever! _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

Haha! We were at the thread in the Gen. Forum discussing the ORL-BOS game. Terrific ending.
Hope the Lakers win! |
