Since we got the "your favorite movie" thread, or something like that, let's do the opposite. In your opinion, what's the worst movie you ever seen?

Just drop your cinephile anger and disgust at this thread.

The Blair Witch Project... and I'm not just saying it because its the 'cool' response. That movie was gawd awful IMO... talk about something not even close to the hype. I never told people on the way out of movie to save your time and money, until this one...

Tied for a close second was American Beauty and Donnie Darko...

Crossover. If you haven't heard of it, don't bother checking it out. It's an hour and a half of your time that you could better spend banging your head against a wall.

I think in a way it takes a skilled person to make the worst movie ever. Anyone can make a dumb movie but when you know there's talent there it becomes infuriating.

I think there's probably room on this list for Over The Top (good title), and Higher Learning, which was Singleton's comedic nosedive after Boyz N The Hood.

The second Twilight movie followed closely by the first. I wasn't too happy my wife dragged me to the second one after only making me watch the first one on video. The sacrifices we make for love...

The Box. - That thing was the most atrocious acting in history. Cameron Diaz's accent was there only half the time, the other half it was regular. Oh my goodness, just zero stars.

Donnie Darko - HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT'S A BAD MOVIE? It's amazing!!

Hard to pick just one. There are so many bad movies. In defining the worst, I tend to rule out low budget or other movies with no claim of being good. What truly makes an awful movie is a budget and the pretense of being good (preferably both). For example, steven seagall movies are abysmal, but none so much as The Undiscovered Country, where you can tell he thinks he's making meaningful art.

That's why one of my favorite movies to hate is Rudy...

"If you had HALF the heart Rudy has you'd....."

That line is used about 19 times in that film.

the box is a great choice.

not only terrible movie, but huge disppointment too because the trailer was actually pretty good.

Ever see The Patriot? (Mel) Possibly the silliest, most contrived, least authentic period piece since the Revolutionary War.

Fortunately I think I have blocked out the worst movies I have seen. I know I have walked out on a couple several years ago, but I couldn't tell you what they were.

I guess I have become selective in my choices and I just don't watch or go to movies that I think look like they will be mad - not because of snobbery, just laziness.

Movies that I did see that come to mind are things like Airforce One. Star Wars I-III, Battlefield Earth Howard the Duck.

As for some of the ones mentioned, I fortunately have missed many of them and tragically have witnessed some of the othersof the ones I have seen, I agree with most of them.

But I do think some are confusing "didn't like" with being a truly bad movie. I can totally see why people wouldn't like Doubt. It certainly had issues, but it hardly is something that would go on an actual "worst pictures" list. Same with A Serious Man. I can see why people would be bored with that, but it was still really, really good film making.

When I think or WORST movies, I think of genuinely horrible movies with no redeeming value of any sort. Things like Battlefield Earth, A Knight's Tale, HArd to Kill, Norbit . . . stuff like that.

Those same people who listed movies like Doubt, A Serious Man etc have also seen movies like the ones you describe (Norbit, Battlefield Earth). The reason they listed the former rather than the latter was because they didn't understand the former, and they resented a film that challenged them in a manner they weren't prepared for.

For the record, Donnie darko can hold its head up proudly in any worst movie discussion. Just a complete and utter pos.
