We're going to see him in Summer League... because he's on our Summer League team... which is why people who care about our Summer League team are reading the Summer League forum...

Pretty good video, check it out. (sorry if my links don't work)

I can see why Mitch signed this guy up for Summer League. Looks like an all-out hustle guy.

Supposedly around 6'9" with a 7'2" wingspan, but only weighs about 205 lbs.

Was the Atlantic 10 Defensive player of the year for 2009.

Last year he averaged 11 pts, 10 reb, 4blk, 2 stl. He also shot a respectable 33% from 3 pts.

He is listed as a PF/C, but looks like he may be able to guard SF's. Kinda reminds me of a poor man's Tayshaun Prince. Hard to tell from the video if he has enough lateral speed to stay in front of guys on the perimeter. His timing on blocks is excellent though. Probably pretty weak on offense, but if he can hit a corner 3 ball, that may be all he needs to do on offense. His defense looks strong.

I like the move to add a hustle/defense/intangibles guy to our roster and see if he can stick. Looks like the kind of guy that would bring it in practice everyday, even if he never played in the games. Those kinds of players are great to have around. Best case scenario he becomes a Junk Yard Dog/Chris Anderson type of player that gives you defense and energy off the bench.

Also, from his DX profile:

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Tony-Gaffney-5525/

Quote:
A very athletic forward with a slender frame, Gaffney exploited his excellent quickness on a couple of occasions today, beating his defender off the dribble on three memorable occasions. Not usually prone to putting the ball on the floor, his ability to get to the rim was quite impressive. Once in the lane, Gaffney used quick fakes to get his man off balance before spinning over his left shoulder for hook shots. Considering his length and quickness, it is safe to say that Gaffney has a lot of potential if he continues to diversify his offensive game.

On the defensive end, Gaffney has shown great versatility, looking capable when defending the post and the perimeter. Though he will need to continue to add weight to his frame to be a better interior defender moving forward, he shows the timing, awareness, and effort level to be very effective in this setting

I can't believe this guy actually signed with the Lakers because he's definitely a Celtic fan, but I like his attitude and he's trouble around the paint. He's surprisingly athletic, but looks like Shawn Bradley on a hunger strike.

I was thinking he might actually (or secretly) be a Kobe fan.

His college number was 24, and he's got a picture on his blog of him holding up a Lakers #8 jersey.

Also, he looks pretty scrawny but he's listed at 6'8" 220 lbs. For comparison Ariza is listed at 6'8" and 210 lbs, Tay Prince at 6'9" 215 lbs.

He was strong enough to grab 10 boards and block 4 shots a game last year, so I will assume his slender frame is not an issue until proven otherwise.
