There are....excuse my lapse

Anyhow, Odom stepping up at the free throw line saved the game.

LOL

Kobe just now asked what he thought when the ball was in the air on that last Lee shot at the end of the 4th.

I thought it was odd how hard Lamar (early on) and Luke tried to deny Rashard the ball when he wasn't at the arc. I don't think Rashard will make a lot of plays with the ball of the dribble. They key is to not let him catch and shoot. That's almost the entirety of his game. But running around trying to deny him the ball just resulted in getting a lot of cheap fouls called on LO and Luke. The key is to not let him catch in position to shoot. But if he wants to post up ... I don't see him converting a lot of plays down low.

Props to Kobe for owning up to a subpar-Kobe game by Kobe standards. He said he has to read better next game and he will quarterback better next game.

Good leadership. Cut down on the 7TOs. Some were bad calls by refs but he just never got into rhythm. He gotta get in the game earlier. Be in rhythm for 4Q.

Last thought for tonight:
It feels MUCH better to win these type of games than lose them.

PJ seems to have some philosophical preference for coaching his teams to win squeakers. He always seems happier when the team eeks out a win as opposed to when they blow someone out. Curious defensive strategy and execution this game. LO seemed unable to remember that you don’t want to double off the shooter (Rashard). Was this by design or just coaching brain-lock? Either way, if they played smarter it would not have been a close game. Rashard WAS the Magic offense through the middle part of the game. Without his offense, this could have turned into a rout. The Lakers were trying to have it both ways with Dwight and the outside shooters. I think it’s better to pick your poison and juts live with it.

Why have the refs decided that Bynum will not be allowed to play? Some of the call against him were Kafkaesque. Even one cheap call early on will result in the dreaded “foul trouble.” Just let the guys play. They let Howard get away with a LOT inside, but Bynum always gets the quick whistle. Odd.

Kobe’s shot selection down the stretch needs refinement. Too much settling for jumpers. Bad threes. BUT: the stop at the end of regulation was just a great play by Turkoglu. Great.

Why can’t the Lakers ever get a great shot attempt off an inbounds play like the Magic did at the end of regulation? Or with under 30 secs left in the OT (same play they ran against Cleveland, BTW). It’s like PJ has disdain for a well-designed inbounds play. Like it cheapens the game or something.

Great Kobe-Pau pick and roll with under 2 minutes in OT. Outstanding.
An ugly-beautiful win. I’ll take it, but hope it’s the last we see of the automatic collapsing on Dwight. That’s just asinine and plays into the Magic’s hands.

Refs missed a LOT of calls. Just terrible. Some of them were with the ref, like, 3 feet away and he still missed them.

LO is a very good player, but not the guy you want to trust to get a key stop. There is no way you should allow your man to catch and shoot an open three off an inbounds play (no matter how ell-designed). That was a Rasheedesque miscue.

How about Phil deciding to take the ball out full court with 9 seconds left in regulation?

yeah, that will get you a good shot! Not.

it would have gotten us a good look. odom AND ariza were WIIIIIIIIDDDEEEEEE OPEN on that play. kobe just made a bad decision with the ball and hedo made a great play (though dwight howard probably would have blocked that shot anyways).

I don't like wasting 6 or 7 of the 9 seconds bringing the ball up the court. It doesn't leave much time to make a move or a 2nd pass, by the time Kobe took the shot there wasn't time to pass it to anyone else and get the shot off.

We escaped with a win protecting home court.

I can't believe how open Courtney Lee was at the end of regulation , and I can't believe he missed it

Will take it !!!

Orlando really woke up tonight in game 2 and it's just gonna get harder in their house.

Gotta come out Stronger !!!

2 MORE TO GO!!! LET'S GET IT LAKERS!!!!

his first miss was, imo, more egregious than his second. gasol fell to the floor and lee had plenty of time to waltz to the basket and put up a layup. fortunately for us he didn't opt to use glass and back rimmed it out.

the second miss was actually pretty tough considering he had to think about the time left and it was a lob pass to him. very, very makeable, but still tough.
