He did tally a few assists, including a few that created hoops for others

So what did the other assists do?

The keyword there is "created"... That sequence with Pau where Luke curled around him and then dished that pass in traffic to him created the hoop for Pau. A pass over to Lamar where his defender is sagging off him and he decides to hit a J doesn't really create a hoop. A post entry to Kobe where he decides to hit a turnaround J doesn't really create a hoop.

Not having Bynum may turn out to be a blessing in that our defensive shortcomings are magnified. That should hopefully cause the team to improve those weaknesses so that when he comes back we are better than before. Hopefully!

There could be some truth to that. I mentioned when he went down that I thought our D would get tighter. They'll just have to work even harder to get things done, so hopefully we see that happen. (Hasn't happened yet, but...) and if we then throw Bynum back in the mix, you could see some much improve D (assuming he gets back in the swing of things at some point).

The Lakers D on this roadie has been horrible in the 1st halves. Phil straighens things out and the team does respond better in the 2nd halves.

It seems like he's preaching some of these defensive shortcomings during the first half, too, but the team just doesn't quite lock in until the second half. The Memphis game was understandable because the team was in shellshock, but last night

Breaking ankles isn't enough for the Machine. Looks like Kobe can start selling knee insurance as well.
