Lakers looking GREAT in the west if they sweep the two step. They will be 6 games ahead of all West competition, that's almost as good as wrapping up HCA in the West. _________________ The Man who Built the Great Western Forum

Having a couple of guys out actually isn't all that bad. I think it'll force the Lakers to actually play with effort instead of overlooking opponents. They know that we're short handed and need everyone's top effort to win. Hopefully Andrew continues to play well and Yue can at least play decently in spot minutes. _________________ Jeffs

Quote: | Tough assignment
Rockets forward Shane Battier came through his first game back in the rotation without any setbacks. He is not, however, eager to return tonight to the assignment he took on in past seasons playing 40-plus minutes matched up against the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant.
“I didn’t say that,” Battier said. “Now let’s not get any crazy ideas. That would be a crazy idea.
“He’s at the top of the profession right now. There’s no one better. You try to make him work, try to make him hit tough jump shots and you live with the results. You can’t go in there expecting an easy day. It’s a tough day, but that’s why these games are fun.”
Rockets coach Rick Adelman said that Battier will likely start on Bryant, but that Von Wafer and possible Rafer Alston could also have turns with that assignment. |

Artest and TMac are both definitely out for the game. |

I don't get the fear of the Rockets by some of the posters in this thread. We already blew them out when they had Mcgrady/Yao/Artest. |

Kobe will probably put Battier back on the injured list with all his moves. |

^^Let's just hope this isn't part Deux of last year's matchup in Houston. 11-33 in a mano a mano battle with Battier and his "face-guarding". |

Kobe better not make it a 1-on-5 thing. Lakers have plenty of firepower to take down the Rockets and Gasol/Bynum should absolutely KILL them inside with high percentage looks all night. If they get Yao in trouble Rockets have no chance. _________________ The Man who Built the Great Western Forum

Agreed, but really I don't see kobe trying to do that, we have four seven footers and they only have one, take yao out and pound them inside, and pray that there overactive pf's, all energy guys, don't out hustle us.
Maybe this thread might become the game thread? _________________ 11/9/12 the day the brown was flushed down!!!!!!

I would love it if they would put Von Wafer on Kobe. Not only would Kobe eat his lunch but he would tire him out too much to hit those threes against us. _________________ Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. |

They'll leave Battier on Kobe. Battier did a great job last season. Expect the refs to give Battier ample leeway for contact, as this is a home game for the Rockets. _________________ We are stardust

Battier doesn't really appear to be an overly physical defender to me (well at least in my opinion, I don't watch him much other when he goes up against the Lakers ). Not like a James Posey for instance with the grabbing, pushing, denying position and being extremely agressive. He's an extremely smart one though and has perfected that face guarding technique. Although to be frank, the Lakers were severely outmanned last season in the game that stuck in our memories (Kobe burned him for 45 in the first and 30 in the second game) and the Rockets were healthy + riding that winning streak if I remember correctly. |

I would put Ariza on Brooks. I would make his life a living hell. _________________ This Laker Organization has not yet hit bottom. It is moving there quickly, and I suspect this year we will see zero talent coming to the Lakers and we will trade away Kuz and BI for old vets in the hopes of giving LeBronze some scapegoats. |

I agree, Battier just plays smart, doesn't fall for Kobe's pump fakes and keeps close to him, doesn't give him space at all. Posey is not a defender, I have no idea what they call his type of "defense". _________________ New Beginings |

Bingo! Every time the Rockets beat us they get hot from 3=point range because we leave them open.
Guard the 3, Rockets lose. |

Ok, were definitely short Sasha, Walton, Odom and Farmar.
Expect huge minutes for starters with Powell and Ariza backing up at 3 and 4. _________________ The Man who Built the Great Western Forum
