Franklin, Cooke, Gaye = soul. BB King = blues. Marley = reggae. |
That's exactly the point. The original list was the OP's "greatest" songs, and should not be confused with an all-time top ten. I was just chiding him for not really exploring anything before current generation hip hop by giving a handful of songs from a few genre's off the top of my head. Apparently, some folks don't even recognize enough of the songs to see the different genres... _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Great song, but the pure feeling in the lyrics (not to mention the social relevance), and the perfectly matched haunting melody of "Change" makes it his magnum opus IMO. _________________ “We must always take sides. It's topics like these that expose so much glaring pretentiousness out of some people LOL

If it's already established his musical taste is "poor" then it's quite acceptable to "bash" someone in a thread called "Best Songs on All Time". If it wasn't established that his musical taste was "poor" because after all it is subjective, then you just implied that his musical taste was "poor" thus bashing him.
Either way, I like this example someone posted in another thread: if I say, "Steve Francis is the best player in the league," it is my opinion/taste. However it is obviously ridiculous to think that and everybody else would tell me that I'm an idiot. Would they too be presenting themselves as the "coolest guy" in town? No, they would just be stating a fact, even if it meant bashing someone while doing it. |
