These always make good gifts...and I'd love to hear some recommendations. I've given a few of these people. Here are a few that I like (I linked with LG affiliate links below):

Foyle's War - This is a BBC detective series that takes place in England during WWII. One of my favorites. They just finished airing the last one a couple weeks ago. I love the era and the characters.

Mission Impossible - If you've never watched the originals, or only caught a few these are still great. Martin Landau is excellent in these.

The Unit - Special forces unit. Get the military action on one side and the soap opera-ish family life on the other side.

The Cadfael Collection - A 12th-century Benedictine monk who solves mysteries and has to deal with the varying antogonists of the time.

24 - If you haven't watched the series, this is a good way to do it. No waiting. Just don't stay up all night.

Detective Lynley - Another Masterpiece Theater mystery. Two partners from opposite backgrounds solve crimes.

Baa Baa Black Sheep - Old TV show about fighter pilots. Takes place in WWII in the Pacific.

Lost - I've given this to a few people. I think it's probably a good way to watch the show. No waiting for the next episodes and some people have complained that there aren't enough answers. You can plow through the set at your own pace and get answers instead of waiting.

Heroes - Save the cheerleader, save the world. Various characters coping with their mutant-like powers and trying to do what heroes do.

I'm sure I'm missing some more of my favorites, but that's a good start.

The Lord of the Rings box sets. The behind the scenes stuff on those put everything else I've ever seen to shame.

I have mixed feelings about the Godfather box set -- on one hand, it includes I and II. On the other hand, it also includes III.

Also, The West Wing boxed set.

The things we need to suffer through for all the good things.

I also got the Star Wars boxed set (episodes 4-6 only), but I was duped and it was the re-mastered versions. Absolutely hate them.

The Simpsons have good boxed sets, but not for the entire series, obviously. Season-by-season only.

Will the Sopranos ever have a full boxed version for the entire run?

Forgot about my Hitchcock sets. Those are a staple.

Only reason I haven't bought Seinfeld is that it's on all the time. Those hold up brilliantly, unlike some other TV sitcoms.

Anyone mention Dexter yet? 2nd season was in some ways better than the first.

I'm surprised it took so long for someone to mention this. I was reading through the threads like, where is Die Hard?!

Back to the Future is one I have that no one has mentioned yet.
