ESPN buzz on him:
Quote:
BIGGEST SURPRISE:
He has faced the Grizzlies' Mike Conley, the Bobcats' D.J. Augustin and the Spurs' George Hill and come out as the best point guard on the floor each time. The unheralded playmaker is good not only at dialing up his own number -- scoring 46 points on just under 50 percent shooting -- but also at getting good looks for his teammates (18 assists).

He has been going against some of the top rookie PGs and he has outplayed them so far.

He went to Cal State Fullerton and went undrafted last year, though at one point was considered a late first rounder. He played last year in Germany and looked great.

I'd like to see the Lakers extend an invite to the homegrown boy.

I remember reading things on this guy when he was comin out, I wanted us to take a look at him! It was off of draft express and some NBA baller was saying that he could definetly play in the league.

I watched him at CSUF while he attended there.

He was very good in his senior season, and seems to have gained more experience and worked on his weaker aspects by playing abroad.

Realistically I don't see him working here with the logjam of PGs/combo guards. There is Fish, Farmar, Coby Karl, Joe Crawford, and even Sasha at times.

But boy do I wish we had another guard who could create and alleviate some of that pressure from Kobe's shoulders.

As did I. Would have been a much better camp invite than Coby Karl, IMO.

And I still feel that way.

If Brown can produce at or better than the level of either Karl or Crawford (which appears likely) then as it stands now, assuming Sasha is resigned, I don't see a problem with a back court of:

Bryant
Fisher
Farmar
Sasha
Brown

Assuming Sasha is signed and even if Yue is invited to camp and significantly impresses then the Lakers can still go with 14 players instead of the desired 13 by letting both Karl and Crawford go or they could even go with 15 players (very unlikely) and and keep either Karl or Crawford.

Roster with 14 players:
Forwards (5): Gasol, Odom, Rad, Luke, Ariza
Centers (3): Bynum, Mihm, Mbenga
Guards (6): Bryant, Fisher, Farmar, Sasha, Brown, Yue (Karl/Crawford possible #15)

Keeping either Karl or Crawford in this scenario is really unlikely and a stretch to say the least (so I'll leave them out of the balance analysis below) but I don't see why a breakdown of players at their "true" positions of: Forwards 5, Centers 3, Guards 6 would not work simply because Bryant or Yue can play some SF if needed and Gasol can play some center as well.

Players and the positions they can play:
PF (5): Gasol, Odom, Rad, Mbenga, Mihm
SF (6): Odom, Rad, Luke, Ariza, Bryant, Yue
C (4): Bynum, Mihm, Gasol, Mbenga
SG (5): Bryant, Sasha, Farmar, Brown, Ariza
PG (5): Fisher, Farmar, Sasha, Brown, Yue

Looks like pretty good balance with this 14 man roster that would still include Sasha (resigned), Brown and Yue.
