Please don't bring this into your class. We had to read this over the summer prior to starting our freshman year. When school finally started, I don't think there was one kid who actually liked it. |

I've always been an avid reader, and the authors/books I got into when I was in high school were:
Stephen King
Dean Koontz
The Incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
books that might be more appealing to younger readers now:
The Shopaholic Series by Sophie Kinsella
The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer
Best Books for Young Adults _________________ "I define success by championships, by winning..." Kobe Bryant

There's more fun stuff from Hesse, but that's a good start. I enjoyed Steppenwolf, Narcissus and Goldmund, as well as Magister Ludi. When you read the last one, bear in mind you are reading a sublime comedy, as Hesse sometimes laughs at the self importance of any thinking class. |

For that age:
Sci-Fi/Fantasy:
Paolini's Eragon (Don't let the movie turn you off), and Eldest
Terry Pratchett's Disc World series.
Douglas Adam's Hitchiker series
Piers Anthony is good, but some of his books get a bit racy for the parents of kids that age so you should pre-read them.
Other:
Watership Down
Catcher in the Rye
Prayer for Owen Meany |
