The Onion's AV Club
Quote: | 16 great bands with more than one prominent lead singer |
Quote: | 16. Pink Floyd
15. The Go-Betweens
14. Mission Of Burma
13. The Clash
12. Uncle Tupelo
11. Sloan
10. Grateful Dead
9. Beach Boys
8. The Band
7. Drive-By Truckers
6. Eagles
5. Hüsker Dü
4. The New Pornographers
3. Fleetwood Mac
2. Fugazi |
Quote: | 1. The Beatles
Apple Records printed "Lennon-McCartney" under each Beatles song—at least those not written by George Harrison—but it's never been too hard to figure out which of the two main Beatles was primarily responsible for which timeless hit. Just listen to the voices: John Lennon's is like his songs, unrestrained and slightly sardonic, while Paul McCartney tends toward the sweet and earnest. Both men collaborated on each other's work from time to time, and Harrison and Ringo Starr took their turns at the mic, either singing their own songs or L&M's. But as the band played on, each personality separated out, until they all fit into little individual boxes, just like on the cover of Let It Be. |
I am a big Pink Floyd fan, so I would move them up higher.
Nirvana had only the one lead singer, but we saw that after Nirvana, Dave Grohl turned out to be a great lead man himself. Same goes for Genesis. Peter Gabriel leaves, they have a good singer playing the drums. I realize none of those bands have two singers at the same time like Pink Floyd or the Beatles, but it turned out the replacements weren't that bad.
Who else could go on this list? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Oh, and I will add, some of these bands I never heard of.
Uncle Tupelo? Husker Du? Fugazi? I follow music and am a big fan of many musical acts, but these three?
And aren't the Drive-By Truckers fairly new? If they throw them on this list, why not add the Raconteurs? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

fugazi is fronted by the former lead singer of Minor Threat. Ian McKaye. Minor Threat was an influential hardcore punk band back in the early eighties. _________________ Thank you, Kobe. We love you. |

I'm not a big fan of theirs, but the Traveling Wilburys had some damn good singers. Not even just two, but more than that. _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

I don't know where they would be ranked but Temple of the Dog comes to my mind with two prominent rock singers in Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder. |

While we're at it, why no Public Enemy? Run-DMC? Beastie Boys? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Amon Duul II, on "Wolf City" both Renate Knaup-Kroetenschwanz and Lothar Meid sing on on the same and on different tracks adding to the beauty of the overall feel and making Wolf City my favorite Amon Duul II release, although Dance of the Lemmings is very spacy and cool too.
Have NO FRIGGEN' IDEA of what I am talking about?
Well I am here to help, follow this link;
http://www.allmusic.com/
then type in Amon Duul II in the search field and click on the first album (the one that looks like a spaced-out Cat) |
