Who has the best dim sum in the LA area? I've been to some of the downtown places, but wasn't very impressed - everything a bit greasy, imo. But maybe I was at the wrong place.

Ocean Seafood Restaurant right near China Town is supposed to be the best. I thought it was okay, but (like you said) was a bit too greasy.

I used to go to this play on the second floor of this building on Wilshire in West LA right before getting to the VA. It's sort of right near Bandera's (but a block or two West on Wilshire on the north side of the street)... I forgot what it was called, but it might be called VIP Harbor Seafood or something like that. It always hit the spot good enough for me.

I am a big dim sum guy, but it was hard finding great dim sum in LA. Every come down to San Diego, try Jasmine, Emerald, Pearl, or China MAx Seafood.... they are all in the Kearny Mesa area, except for Pearl which is in Rancho Bernardo.

It's a type of Chinese food. A wide variety of small dishes like filled dumplings and buns. It's similar to the Spanish concept of tapas if you're familiar with that.

Vancouver's Chinatown has fallen off. Its all about Richmond now.

But even though, San Gabriel Valley is just as good, if not better.

My family is very into dim sum and we try all the new places. The places mentioned so far are very good and I'd be happy to eat at any of them, but my current favorite is Sea Harbour in Rosemead.

888 is down the street from where I live. Rosemead area has turned into another chinatown/little saigon area from all the asian restaurants on valley blvd

edit: I'm craving dim sum now. Might just have to grab some the next weekend I'm back home in Rosemead.

I have to try it because I have yet to eat good dim sum in the OC. I live in Huntington Beach, but Little Saigon doesn't do it for me like the good ole 626.
