True. Last year, even before the injuries, many of us were predicting a huge fall due to a soft early schedule and horrible team defense.

This year, the team playing much, much better D, even as scoring seems to be up league-wide.

SGH

Defense aside, I love his baseline cuts for easy layup/dunk opportunities.

He gives a different rhythm and athletic feel to both the offensive and defensive side of the new-Lakes. That he anticipates is great, and his wide span helps. His willingness to go to the rack while also taking up defensive challenges is really helpful in whatever mix he's cast (with this team.) He fits in with several rotations.

In a short series, he might prove a bit less effective surprising other teams with his style. Right now, other teams sort of expect and prep for a plodding team (shoot the three, iso Kobe, walk down, shoot the three, iso Kobe, shoot the three.) That's not happening with this uptempo group (which weighs heavily on the ex-ULCANs.) Lot more fun to watch. (Kobe's post game comments about this 'not being what we want, that's not what were after' notwithstanding.)

I'd be interested to see if the Ariza style has resulted in him getting injured in his past journey thru the league so far? Anyone have those stats?

Thanks DB. I was really impressed with AB's help D. He's come a long way. He did a good job keeping Paul out of the paint, got beat a couple times by West, but all in all I liked what I saw.

LO has got to get back to that medicine ball training, West was abusing him badly in the paint.

Luke hasn't been nearly as bad as people have been suggesting around here. He did a good job against Granger, and he did a good job against Gay; two players I didn't think he had a chance against. I think his play in the starting lineup has a lot more to do with the hot starts we've had than people are willing to give him credit for. And his D hasn't been bad either. He's not an explosive player but he is smart and strong, he uses his body well. While watching LO get slapped around by West I was thinking how Luke's probably stronger than LO.

The Lakers offense was clicking, love the passing and off the ball movement. I haven't been this excited about their play in a very long time!

Awesome as always DB.

It's amazing the change and growth of this team. It's the stuff of movie montages.

Kwame continues to give me Malone flashbacks with some of his passing. And though he still fumbles the ball some, he's doing a better job of eventually controlling it and holding on. You know, you can't teach a guy to grow bigger hands, but maybe he can dust off that midrange jumper and get more adept at it. You hate to see such a physical specimen be a jump shooter (ala Larry Johnson), but maybe that just suits his mentality more.

Ariza... I am loving this guy. I always thought he had a future coming out of college and with the Knicks... I bet more than one GM is kicking themselves. But this guy was built for this Laker team. I love hearing about his dedication to improve his shooting.

The funniest moment of the night was watching Paul frantically call out for the ref when Fish got in his face. Truth be told, I'd be calling for help too. Fish looks like he's chisled from granite.

Say what you will about Kobe, but he's doing the right thing. While he may not be the nurturing leader, he's keeping this team grounded and real. He's being the bad cop for lack of a better term, but you need that on a young team. It's the only way to keep them working. Hats off.

One thing that bothered me is that on one play, Odom kept getting the offensive rebound, went up for the layup, missed, got the ball back, another layup, miss, rebound, layup, miss, NO got the ball.

But it was made better when the next time down the floor, Odom demanded the ball and spotted up for a jump shot. He was not about to miss again, and he makes the 2-point shot. I really liked that attitude about not giving up, no matter how easy it would have been the first time.

lamar worked his butt off last night, and the guy gets zero from the refs.

he was in great defensive position multiple times when west just barreled right through him. should've gotten a call or 2.

but he kept battling. he's still working into form but i like his effort and fight. his role is becoming more to his liking and natural abilities. it's fitting together nicely.

but damn refs, give the guy some love.

As the game went on, LO really started to battle West, fronting and denying him pretty effectively I thought.

LO was following the toughness and game plan that DFish helped to establish as well. Yeah, CP got off for 32, and one might think that DFish got torched, but that was the game plan and it worked. DFish was very physical with CP to the point that it got chippy. I think that helped turn the game into a one-on-one battle that made CP think more of a personal confrontation rather than playing a team game.

Bynum was fantastic, outplaying a known defensive specialist and top 5 rebounder. It didn't seem like Chandler was even in the same league.

Ariza! Ariza! Andale! (it'll make sense if you try that in a Speedy Gonzalez voice). There's so much to like about the guy.

Amazingly enough, there's not even a link to the game anywhere on ESPN's NBA front page.

Sportsline has a great lead article on their NBA front page though about the Phil and the team.

Not knowing Spanish I had to look up arriba and it seems like it means rise up, or up above. Perfect nickname for TAIRiza

I vote LS should have to use that for an avatar.

I vote if that I EVER find all the copies of that picture, they will be immediately destroyed. I don't even have one copy of it. As for the picture Jerry provided... I will consider it.

I hope Lamar plays more like that every game. He was very active defensively against West. I'd like for him to continue making it a personal insult whenever the opponent tries to score. Too bad he was jobbed several times by the refs.

lol... well that's still cute. My friends little girl calls herself a babe (as in hot) or a princess. Sometimes she refuses to take off her little crown thingee, often wears a princess dress to her kid groups/classes (whatever), and she constantly watches all the disney princess movies. She even had a princess themed birthday party and I made myself my own princess crown (it was under duress and unfortunately there is a picture of me wearing it circulating the black market among my friends... I have admitted too much, bye now).

Ask a certain poster in Tulsa about associating yourself with the word princess.

That was the 1st time I visited LG, and smack on the middle of the page is a 5 page thread titled "I am a pretty princess"
