Other than any Lakers, who is your favorite athlete? This is not relegated to only the NBA or basketball.

For me, it is Lawrence Taylor, of the NY Giants.

Other nominees: Pepper Johnson, Bo Jackson, Tiki Barber, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Lenny Dykstra, Mark Bavaro.

As you can tell, I am a Giants fan.

Who are your favorites?

Ok no basketball...

Barry Sanders to be so humble yet posess such incomprehensible talent is as Barry's play on the field. Barry was the anti-pro athelete. Jerry Rice consumate professional, Sensei of all wide receivers. Bo Jackson probably the greatest professional athlete ever. Bowing out to health issues left everyone with nothing but what-if's. John L. Williams for a long time Seahawk fan this was what being a Hawk was all about. He worked and worked and worked. If you don't understand this one, don't even try.

Emerson Fittipaldi smooth as silk, this guy never hustled his car, only felt the aero and tires working and made the engine get the most of it. Mike Tyson opposite of all that is good. The unclean one. We all know what Tyson was in his heyday. The fear in the eyes of his opponents before the fight said it all. That's the Mike I'm talking about. Arnold Schwartzenegger/Ronnie Coleman are both at the absolute pinnacle of their sport. Arnold really did achieve perfection while Ronnie's combination of strength and size as a bodybuilder is something that will probably never be duplicated (check Youtube for his legendary 800lbs deadlift video).

Probably Lance Armstrong because of his amazing battle with cancer and then winning the most grueling sports event in the world.

I liked Eric Gagne. Still do, but I doubt he'll be a Dodger next season and I'm a hometown kinda guy.

Greg Maddux was always my favorite non-LA baseball player because dude didn't look like an athlete and pitched so cerebrally, so I was ecstatic when we picked him up. Wish we could have had him in his prime, but I'll take this.

Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong are the first that come to mind. Golfers aren't supposed to be athletes, but Tiger definitely is one. He is by far the best at what he does. He has a passion for winning. The same can be said of Lance Armstrong. Lance did fight cancer on the way to becoming by far the best in his sport.
