The mobility fits better into what the Lakers want to do defensively.
Straight backup with AD. Don’t see them sharing the floor.
Not bad… _________________ Darvin |

Only played 47 games last year. Production and efficiency took a big drop last season as well. What’s up with that? |

Well Ham certainly hated him, we know THAT for sure.
Jaxon is an upgrade over Bamba for sure. And even younger too, so he has a chance to improve with his great size and athletic ability.
Unfortunately for Bamba, he only SOUNDS good on paper. But his lack of motor and effort will make him out of the league in a year or two. |
How is Jaxson an upgrade over Bamba? |
Jaxon has better size, strength, energy, athletic ability, and chance for growth.
Bamba’s lack of effort made him a liability on both ends, which was probably why Ham never even tried to play him meaningful minutes even when he was healthy.
Jaxon could be our 2020 JaVale McGee. |
6'11 and a 7'4 wingspan 220lb is better size than 7'0 and 7'7 wingspan 230lb?
You probably mean like Javale McGee in terms of athletic and a rim runner.
But Javele McGee had more weight, has shown to be a better defender, and was a bonafide rim protector.
Javale had a better touch around the rim, while being a lob threat. Also, because of his size, set better picks.
Jaxson is definitely more active than Mo and moves better.
He's a better transitional player than Mo.
Jaxson is 2 years younger, but that only means his upside is experience, not skillset.
Unless we talking being a better shot blocking and rebounding.
Nothing about Jaxson is over the top better than what Bamba brought.
What I mean is Mo has a better touch around the rim.
Jaxson is more athletic and can dunk around the rim.
They both cancel out in rebounding.
Mo is a better shot blocker.
Jaxson could possibly get to block shots faster.
Mo spreads the floor and shoots better.
They both don't have that much weight to contain physical players.
Jaxson doesn't really improve the team, but he does add a transitional big element.
Maybe they want this team to be a transitional team, which would make sense to have Jaxson.

I was hoping the Lakers would pick him up. Just what we needed, a young center, energetic, athletic, overall good signing for the right price. |

Watching the Pels last season, it boiled down to questionable coaching, poor rotations and no player development. He had a very short leash. Their coach preferred playing an injury prone Nance over him.
Go through the Pels lotto picks in the last 4-5 years. How many of them have panned out? They shot themselves in the foot by trading the 4th and missing out on Garland.
Doesn't help that they are poverty-tier. Almost like the Wizards of the west. I see them going nowhere anytime soon. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.

Don’t really like this guy’s history. I liked the Lakers culture that they started building last year. Hopefully he treats this like a wake up call and gets his (bleep) together. Pels fans are pretty happy to see him go. We need a big, I guess. _________________ Austin Reaves

Needs minutes to improve if Ham uses him at least to rest AD that’s 12-14 minutes. I’m sure the trade deadline will be a factor for center if a team is out of it early or an expiring contract comes along!
This team will be fun to watch this year cause everyone is full of energy & deep. Capable of resting LBJ & or AD on back to backs! _________________ My Laker squad.

When you're 23 and getting vets min there is a reason but I like the upside of the signing. |

Great pick up. Would love to see Bamba there as well and just keep rotating those 2 with AD but doubtful Bamba (or Hayes) will be content watching from the bench while another young guy gets his mins to turn around his career.
Does many of the things McGee did but just not as well. Hopefully learning from AD, LeBron, Ham, and Handy can help him find his role.
What's most obvious is Rob has really decided to do a stealthy rebuild while LeBron its still on the roster. No bending over to get Bron's guys. Just trying to find the next wave of Lakers post Bron. |

Herb Jones and Trey Murphy seem to be doing just fine. |
Herb was picked 35th and worked his butt off to make the rotation over more talented players.
Trey was 17th. It took him a few years.
No lotto picks there.
I'm talking about Kira, Hayes, Nickeil Alexander Walker, Zion, Dyson, etc.
I'd give them the benefit of the doubt if Zion wasn't more interested in screwing pornstars than staying in shape and helping his team, but that's an entirely different topic. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.

I think you just said it perfectly he’s 23 not 29 so if he was 29 and he was getting a vet minimum deal I would be worried he’s still a kid who with the right people around him he can turn his NBA career around |

Like the upside, the athleticism, the motor and the shot blocking. Not a shooter at all. 3 moves (left hand dunk, right hand dunk, two hand dunk). I like it. _________________ Darvin Ham is an idiot! |

Hmmm. Well...
So needless to say his legal woes was the first thing I thought when I heard his name. But you know I do believe in redemption and second chances. I remember when KCP first joined the Lakers I had to document his legal troubles in the injury and absences thread. In fact that's why I called it the injury *and absences* thread because he wasn't missing games due to injury. So hopefully Jaxson's incident and particularly that pretty ugly looking arrest was a wake up call for him to get himself together and move forward.
Also seems like he had a number of injuries last season so I hope he's just better. On a variety of levels I hope he's in a better mental state and health is better and he's just better. _________________ #IStillBelieveTaurean |

Walker is decent. Dyson just got to the league. Zion is an All NBA caliber player when he’s healthy. Don’t think you can blame his health on New Orleans. They’ve had some misses in the draft just like everyone else. Hayes was picked as a project and he hasn't gotten any better. If our staff can turn him into an NBA player that’s a great story. Until he starts showing something, our expectations should be that he will be roughly the same. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Ya I remember when KCP was playing with an ankle monitor or something like that.
Hayes will be fine if he has the right group around him. He's young and needs to keep his head straight. I hope Phil Handy can work his magic on him like he did with Rui. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.
