How much is needing to add muscle and how much is technique?
Seems like he gets pushed around on boards and screens but a lot of his strengths look as good as the scrap heap FA and he will only get better. If it's as easy as 7-8 lbs of muscle by opening day, I really think they lean toward eventually converting him with 14 and stay under the apron. If they see a too good to be true buyout late in the year, worst case you can give a 2nd away for someone to take whoever doesn't get minutes (Reddish?), sign the player and reset tax...the better long term play. If Wood wants to be here great, but I really think they know Castleton will be 14. |

I don't think he's ready to defend NBA bigs, so he has to develop a consistent 3pt shot. Find a niche as an offensive threat with playmaking skillz

By my count, Castleton was 36 of 64 from the floor for 56.3% shooting percentage. He averaged 13.7 points, 9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 blocks per game (including Sacramento games). IMO definitely worth keeping around for development / duty in case of injuries.
By comparison, Jay Huff in 19 games with the South Bay Lakers shot 62.9% from the floor and averaged 14.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 3.5 blocks per game.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I would go with Castleton.

That's how I see it. I'd be happy to have Biyombo as a rim protector and maybe even Green as a stretch option but I think they promote Castleton rather than use the 14 spot on another big. It may be a mutual thing since a Biyombo may not like their chances of getting PT as a 3rd center and would sign elsewhere. |

Yep, definitely a different. But still, Castle isn't ready for the big show.

Castleton is also much better on the defensive upside and instincts.

We will see how he does in training camp. Hayes is an athletic freak and that’s the type of player I think castleton will struggle against. If he can hold his own he may be able to make the roster. If not he will remain a 2-way and develop in the G league

| What I like about Castleton is he can handle the ball. That’s a good skill for a 5. We definitely have something to work with imo. |

I like what I have seen from Castleton overall. Solid skills and impact when on the floor. But my expectations remain low. He is a developmental player. Certainly has some strengths to focus on. Certainly has work to do to earn mpg on a nightly basis.
I am not expecting him to become the day one starter. More like a periodic fill in when Hayes, Davis or next min FA center are not available during a long season.
I am not expecting him to go toe to toe with Jokic or Embid. I am not expecting him to be an imposing physical center. He is more of a finesse player. I look forward to seeing him get some mpg as a backup ( against other backups) within the flow of the game. How he rotates on defense, how he passes and stays within himself in the offense.
Let’s judge him by those opportunities and see what he can offer. That is assuming he earns those mins of course. It is up to the young man to find his own niche in the league. |

Not quite. Dude has an above average standing reach and 7’3 wingspan.
All it is, is just a long neck.
