Why is this on the Lakers Lounge? I mean RIP but that's the first thing I noticed.

I just watched the 30 for 30 on the Lakers/Celtics trilogy if you haven't seen it I highly recommend.

Probably because the General NBA discussion is lightly visited and its more relevant than off topic.

Yep, going to the General section is like being at a dinner party and then excusing yourself to start a conversation with yourself in a bathroom.

RIP to one of the greats. Wish I had been old enough to see him play.

Farewell to an absolute legend. One of my all time favorites on and off the court. RIP

Felt like he would be around forever. This kind of caught me off guard.

I always think of three things when I think of him. Not in any particular order:

- Winning.
- Civil rights.
- His relationship with Kobe.

One of a kind legend.

The only member of the Green Puke I can respect....this is a tough one for sure but let's honor Russel's legacy and celebrate the life and career of the NBA's first dominant big man.

His legacy as a winner is unmatched in American pro sports and he certainly was never afraid to speak his mind....long before that became fashionable.

Nothing but respect for Bill Russell, the pride of Oakland and USF before joining the Celtics. RIP.

Along with two NCAA Championships and an Olympic Gold Medal.

That is an unbelievable record of winning.

Bill Russell was a treasure as a player, coach and especially as a human being. @Lakers and @celtics fans can agree on this today.

I was surprised to see he was 88. For some reason I imagined he was 130 or some other biblical age. He just seemed like a timeless guy who was born by being carved out of granite.

I'm not sure if there is another figure in sports history who has had such a level of team success. You can only celebrate his legacy of achievement and sports excellent. RIP, Mr Russell.

An absolute legend.

But not just as a basketball player, but as a human being as well. The world lost a great man today. RIP Bill Russell.

As folks continue to debate who the GOAT is, in the NBA….is it Jordan, Lebron, Kareem, etc., let’s never forget Bill Russell. Though he was not a scoring machine, he was arguably the greatest defensive player of all time. I think that makes him just as great as the great scorers.

Some love scorers, some like defense.

Let’s not forget his resume because NO ONE, not Jordan, not Kareem, not Lebron, not Wilt, not Magic, can stack up against this career.

A Legend: On and Off the court! My deep respect for Russell predates my deep dislike of the chowderheads!

The accolades are immense, but what impressed me was his smile, his genuine humble demeanor, his activism delivered with and yielding respect, and of course, what he was able to do in beantown: the first black coach in the league!

RIP Sir! We throw around the words, "Goat" and "Legend" too often: in my mind, you're it!

Because it's appropriate to show respect to fellow champions who also happen to be global icons even if they played for our rival.

The Celtics mourned Kobe and the Lakers will mourn Bill...and on LG, the Lounge is the most appropriate place to do so for greatness.
