We received some LeBron James, Lakers updates from @jovanbuha today:

- With James’ contract up in the air, his franchise power returns

LeGM going to gut the team for Trae Young and play-in merchant next season too

I don't actually buy that LeBron will be pulling strings in the offseason. Like Kobe late in the game, he will secure his money first. Besides, he's around two more years max. If you give up your draft for the five seasons after that, the business suffers. The middle ground is the third star that they can also market along with Davis post LeBron. If they could get Donovan, that certainly checks the boxes. I think the Trae Young banter is more Klutch and early genuflecting than real strategy. They can't be that stupid.

I don't understand this thought of LeBron's contract "hurting" the Lakers in the future. Unless you're forecasting his skills absolutely dropping, which is always possible for players his age. Heck, it happens to most players in their mid 30s.

He's going to sign a short-term contract anyway because he's going to retire soon.

Look around the league, there are definitely worse players making his kind of money on good teams.

The Timberwolves have KAT making $49 mil and Gobert making $44 mil next season. The Celtics have Jaylen Brown making $49 mil next season. The Clippers will want to have both Kawhi and PG at around $49 mil next season. The Suns will have 3 players making $49 mil plus. Dame will be making around $49 mil.

Salaries grow relative to the salary cap. Do you people think LeBron is all of a sudden making a bigger percentage of the salary cap?

I honestly don't think his salary is a big problem because he's still playing like a tier 2 star. That's the going rate. Max contracts have never only been for tier 1 stars.

I say this as someone who hated Kobe getting extended post-Achilles tear. People may like the "loyalty", but he was a scrub at that point.

Grant is a good fit, but his contract is monstrous. AR alone has more value. I don't see the Lakers investing that kind of money in a solid starter. Brogdon and RWIII are more likely targets IMO.

The Lakers would be taking on that horrible contract, but if he can continue to be a 20ppg player it's worth it. Then they can use the mle on Gary Trent and TP, vet min to Drummond/Valuncunias to fill out the roster

I could be okay with Trae IF we fill the rest of the roster with size and defense

And IF we hire a competent HC (Stotts) and Asst HC (Joerger) that can scheme

A closing lineup of

Trae
Vando
Bron
AD
Jonas

Would be fun

A future frp from Portland would be the entire Laker roster minus AD.

The Lakers wouldn't have gotten swept with Murray. I feel strongly about that.

He's better at getting to the basket and I think he's a good defender if there's solid defense around him.

You guys have to realize that the Lakers are getting NOTHING from DLo and Rui right now. They're not scoring at all, which is almost all of their value on this team.

These guys just aren't good enough to be major contributors when you get to these elite teams in the playoffs. They performed well against 2 weakened playoffs last year.

I hope these guys still have value to teams around the league. They would probably be better if they had smaller roles than they do on the Lakers.

In my eyes, they would be lucky if they can still get Murray for AR, salary filler, and a pick right now.

Why would Portland even want AR?

If there's one thing they don't need, it's another score-first SG.

Pelinka signed Gabe to a MLE deal and Vando to an extension and neither played this year. They drafted JHS and Lewis and neither contributed. They signed Cam, Hayes and Wood, and none really contributed. That's literally half the roster.

Can we agree to set May 15th as the day you start spamming LG with trade ideas/talk?

I think we all use some time off to regroup from this season but more importantly prepare for Summer IG.

Don’t look too far, the nuggets will be luxury tax hell next season, and obviously the season beyond. Their starting 5 is super expensive now

The Lakers beat the Nuggets for the first time in a long time, because they got actual support from AR and DLo.

Imagine if the support can play like that in every game against DEN?

AD and LeBron have played well in nearly every game I've watched from them this season, including this series.

They're playing too well for me to want go away from them, despite the mediocrity these last few seasons.

It's the supporting cast, it's always been. The main supporting guys disappear at inopportune times and can't play defense.

Despite the solid season numbers, the Lakers really tanked at the times they have slumped. The Lakers were bad at the beginning of the season during the AR and DLo slumps respectively. They got into a 3-0 hole because they didn't play well.

They aren't bad players, but the Lakers need better and more consistent. And ff those players could also play defense, maybe the Lakers could even survive slumps.

That's the thing. When they're bad, they're giving the team NOTHING.

I wish DLO didn't drink too much and have lackluster games. He's too talented to be this inconsistent. If only he has the mindset of a millionaire, versus the mindset at being content in life.

I cant imagine D'Lo's intangibles being any worse than "champion" JR Smith.
