Glad he is on the team, we need his size at 6’9”. We actually need at least one more in that 6’7”-6’9” range and one less 6’6” or shorter player. I would be looking to move one of JTA, Brown, Walker, Reeves, or Christie for a bigger player of comparable potential impact (preferably better lol) instead of looking to move Gabriel.
Or we could look to move one of our three short PGs in Nunn, Shroeder, or Beverly. Of course the elephant in the room is what are we gonna do with Russ?
Still…the last thing I wouldn’t want is for the Lakers to add another 6’6” or shorter guy since we already have 9 and don’t want to subtract one of our taller players. |

Outstanding opening night from Gabriel! The defense, the rebounding the rim attacks... he is my favorite Laker role player to watch this season.
I really hope more people see how important it is to have traditional heights at the forward spots, especially those that can play defense while giving Lebron or AD some necessary rest this season.
As I said on the first page of this thread, there's a lot more to basketball than small three point shooters. Legit defensive size, effort and IQ actually matters as well (it helped us win a ring in '20). |

He’s an energy player and those kind of players have used on a team whenever the team is playing slow and lethargic he’s the kind of kid that will come in and infuse energy when it’s needed you always need those types on your team |

Loved what Gabriel did for us tonight. This team badly needs an A.C. Green/Michael Cooper type player at the 4. That comparison may be too lofty for Gabriel, but until we hopefully get someone like that by the trade deadline, he can be a stopgap solution.
I really hope Gabriel will be a dependable 3-point shooter for us and improve his positional D and not just be a shot blocker. |

Yeah, it'd be nice if he could make wide open threes at an 'OK' rate, but even down in the paint his offense is still kinda raw.
Heh, I'll settle right now for 70% at the FT line since he will be getting fouled battling for rebounds as hard as he does (he went 0-3 last night). |

Too small. AD is the 5 when they are on the floor together. |

They need a youth movement. Have you seen other teams lately? |

It's just 1 game in the preseason, but he finally showed what he did best in Kentucky.
That's why he's on the team. Energy/hustle out of a 4/3 big is a Top 10 rotation player usually. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

It’s gonna be interesting to watch a potential AD/Gabriel front court. If LeBron can move to center without complaints then surely AD can do it. We only have 5 players (AD, Bryant, Jones, Gabriel LeBron) 6’9” or taller and 9 players 6’6” or shorter. Also Bryant and Jones will have to make a substantial leap in play (as does a Gabriel) to be useful.
With so few bigs and so many SF/G 6’6” or shorter it may be necessary to play more of the most we have. Especially if Jones and Bryant look unimpressive like they did in the first preseason game. I know it’s preseason for us but it was also preseason for Sacramento as well, they should not have had any advantage as they played deep reserves even more than we did (20 players for Sac vs 13 players used for the Lakers) and both teams didn't sub coaches…and we lost by 30pts!
AD Jones Bryant
LBJ Gabriel
Reeves? JTA? Brown?
Nunn Walker Christie
WB Shroeder Bev
Have to decide what worse, Jones/Bryant starting at C or Reeves SF.
Either way…desperately need at least one preferably two more bigs.
Cousins? |

Kudos to Gabriel for bringing energy and hustle on both ends (10 Rb, 4 Blk, 1 Stl, 6 Pt.).
Wen played good defense and made a nice pass in transition to P-Bev that led to an oop to JTA.

Gabriel developing into a solid rotation player this season might make JTA expandable. |

I like Wenyen, and believe he will be a solid contributor to the team, with his athleticism, and energy. Also, he has decent size for a forward, at 6'9". That said, his shooting is a big question mark, and didn't look promising, from in the preseason opener. He bricked a free throw, and long range shot...badly. It's the first game of preseason, so I'm not going to draw any quick conclusions. I've heard that he (and Stanley Johnson) were working on their shooting in the offseason. I hope that work bears fruit, going forward. _________________ ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! |

If anything I would start JtA or Gabriel and bench Brick
PG.Nunn
SG.LeBron
SF.Tuscano
PF.Davis
C.Bryant
Lets go back to size....
I felt that when LeBron had the bball in his hands we always found ways to win. Since we put the ball in bricks hand our offense has looked like ahit |
