Since the original thread got moved.

Quote:
Lakers and Nets are actively engaged in trade discussions centered on a Russell Westbrook-Kyrie Irving package, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Yeah, seems to be about draft picks and taking on a big contract. Lakers seem to want Seth Curry, while the Nets want them to take on Harris. I also wonder what the other contract is, THT or Nunn is my guess.

On the surface seems the deal that the Nets would be able to live with: 2 draft picks, THT, Westbrook to unload Harris, Kyrie.

The Lakers would want to not involve picks, and take Curry with Kyrie.

Now lets see what happens, popcorn anyone?

The Lakers better not get stingy about taking back Harris. If healthy he's a good player and could really help improve our 3-point shooting.

If I’m the nets you’re giving up a pick for Seth because you get his bird rights and he’s a model player and one of the most efficient shooters ever. You go pay a tax for that especially when if you add in any salary like THT or Nunn, the nets end up taking back the most money too. They really accomplish nothing if they do Kyrie and Seth without picks. They don’t lose salary or get draft compensation.

Depends on what they think of his ankle too as he had two surgeries on it.

Harris only has 2 years left at $18.6M. The salaries match for THT+Westbrook for Harris+Kyrie. I think the salaries also work if the Nets do Seth+Harris+Kyrie because Seth’s contract still keeps it within 80%\125% rule.

If this deal dies because we insisted on Seth instead of Joe then fire Rob.

Kyrie alone is worth it to unload WB.

Kyrie and Russ in a (contract) vacuum should have the same value, none. Both have been detrimental to their teams, though Russ at least has shown up. Russ makes more money so we have to incentivize there. But adding THT for Harris (who didn't play last year) is a fair exchange. If it takes a lottery protected 1st to close the deal, why not.

Anything over that is a gross overpay.

*** Noting, the Lakers have avoided salary in the 2023-24 season like the plague. Taking on Harris, even as a productive role player would be a concession by Jeanie.

If the Nets want picks they can flip Westbrook. Nobody else is going to take Kyrie. He isn’t even motivated to play for a team he wants to be on, a team he doesn’t want to be on is doomed.

Perhaps taking on Harris saves draft capital or allows you flexibility to choose who you want to send out.

I’m not super excited about Kyrie anyway but I can’t be letting these folks work my nerves with this backpedaling back-and-forth.

Lakers would be best served giving up the pick/s and getting Kyrie, Seth and Harris. What a turnaround would that be. Wow

If I'm the Nets, you give up the pick for doing Kyrie for WB. Otherwise I sit ad let Kyrie be John Walled next season. I'm talking from their perspective. They have to blow it up, and re-build. They will be getting 4 picks in a Durant trade sometime down the road. So they'll want to get somethig for Kyrie. If it's just one expiring (kyrie) for another (WB) then they have no incentive to do the deal.

To me, if I'm the Lakers if the pick can be protected top 5, I do it. WB is just such a bad fit, and Kyrie is a good fit with them. On offense we go from bottom 10, to top 10 maybe even top 5. Defensively is where we will stay mediocre.

Do whatever it takes to get Kyrie, Rob. Don’t overthink this.
If means sending out 2 FRP and take on Harris, you still do it.
Great reason for LeBron to extend.
Kyrie and AD beyond Lebron.

Kyrie for Westbrook and a 1st is an absolute steal. Getting THT for Harris is also a positive. Adding in Seth? Screw it, add another pick and bring him on. Harris, Seth and Kyrie turn us from the worst shooting team in the league to at least average. Lebron and AD surrounded by high volume 40% shooters from 3? Legitimate contenders.

Harris plays a lot of games most years. And he has shot over 46.5% from three point range for 3 of the last 4 seasons.

If it taking Harris is needed for Kyrie/WB to happen it's a no brainer to do it if Harris is healthy. He's a ridiculous 47% 3pt shooter the past two seasons. WB/THT and a 1st for Kyrie/Harris/Curry would be so good that it seems unrealistic. The whole WB/Kyrie thing seems unrealistic though unless the Lakers give up two firsts and that would be advantage Nets with Kyrie being so unreliable.
