So you expect a short coaching stint for him here?

Nah, I just want Rambis to do what he promised to do and not meddle with the coaching staff. I would expect Rasheed would have the right to say get out if he felt like Rambis was (bleep) up the coach staff chemistry.

Don't know how he's going to be as a coach, but I absolutely hated him as a player. In other words, he should fit right in with this current Lakers roster.

For further context: Wallace was recently identified as a candidate for Ham’s staff. The two sides have not yet reached a formal contract stage.

So is this real or not? It sounds like Charania is backtracking.

Darvin said he is only a candidate during the press conference.

From what Ham said, it seems like Sheed is still under contract with Memphis so there's some hurdles to get through.

(bleep) wannabe head coach Kurt Rambis, always meddling in decisions.

Why?
Rasheed is an NBA champ
played with Ham on that NBA champion team
played for Dean Smith in UNC, mentored by Smith
mentored by Larry Brown in Detroit
Has been an assistant coach in the NBA
has been a head coach in high school and an assistant coach in college

Seems like he meets the requirements for being an assistant coach to me....

Some of y'all talking mess; like y'all care who is on the coaching staff. People rarely bring up a coaches coaching staff when discussing the coach. The staff they come from is mostly discussed after they get hired for a head coaching position.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10037811-lakers-rumors-rasheed-wallace-agrees-to-join-darvin-hams-coaching-staff
Noted that (as stated above) that the contractual stage has not been reached

There are many similarities between Sheed and AD that mgith be helpful.

Since Sheed has stated "The former NBA player once claimed that Russell Westbrook was the best player in the NBA, ahead of players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

On the scale of wildest takes, that definitely has to be up there. Russell Westbrook has been great throughout his career, but there was never a point where he was seen as the overwhelming best player in the league. However, Wallace felt this way just as recent as last year (2021) when Westbrook was a member of the Wizards."
https://thesportsrush.com/nba-news-russell-westbrook-is-the-best-player-in-the-nba-right-now-when-rasheed-wallace-snubbed-lebron-james-kevin-durant-when-naming-the-best-player-in-the-league/
~ Maybe Sheed can get what players "beneath" Russ (like insignificant players such as Curry) who is always working/improving their game - especially on defense and offensive efficiency.

Can Rasheed get AD back to his expected HOF levels, acknowledging that AD's stats are far better than his (https://www.landofbasketball.com/player_comparison/anthony_davis_vs_rasheed_wallace.htm)

Sheed can make the Lakers "tougher??"
"It was the 1999-2000 season when Rasheed really became the full-time bad-boy that he would be known as for the majority of his career. "
"Rasheed Wallace has a once-in-a-lifetime combination of skill, attitude, drive, humor, and downright entertaining basketball."
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1546945-complete-timeline-of-rasheed-wallaces-intriguing-nba-career

Sheed can always say "Ball Don't Lie!!"

My guess is this is in the verbal agreement stage and still missing a signed contract. I don't read too much into it.

He’s not back tracking he’s saying exactly what Dham said himself.

Of all things for someone to call us the laughing stock of the NBA over, it's an assistant coach who's going to sit and the end of the bench? Is Sheed a downgrade from Penberthy?

I guess OP wanted a staff of Phil, Wooden, and Jesus Christ himself.

Why is Penberthy the yardstick to measure against? Can’t we do better than Penberthy? Unless there’s an argument to make that a candidate is amongst the very best handful of people available then they shouldn’t be on the staff. Sheed’s coaching resume, minuscule as it is, is not great. Rather than insist it doesn’t matter, make the case that he’s among the best people available for the handful of slots we have to fill out the staff. I think you’d have a very difficult time doing that.

Why does anyone need to light a fire under a former NBA champion sharing the court with Lebron James?

Exactly.
There are current players like Curry/Luka/Embiid/Greek Freak/KD who are totally focused on winning numerous RINGS and doing anything/everything humanly possible to personally make it happen. The others are grateful to even be in the league, get some glory, make $$$$$$ and be satisfied/content because they "tried their best."

We will find out what AD is made of in a few months
