I was a kid to pubert in the 80s, but Gauntlet was prob my fave arcade game mid decade. Had a pizza parlor that also had the Dragon's Lair gm that was more or less an animated cartoon that acted like a video game. That was like moon landing tech in 85. I remember the gms that were still holdin on in pizza parlors by even the latter 90s (Centipede, Dig Dug, Galaga), but you had all that classic (mostly) Atari crap before the late 80s like Tempest, Berserk, Ms Pac, Frogger, Q-bert, Pole Position, Star Castle, Asteroids (the white stick version, old ass game). The late 80s had too many classics to even list. Specially when the manufacturers expanded past Atari. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
The Dragon’s Lair arcade game was the first laserdisc game on the arcade scene. It quickly became a hugely popular classic due to it’s originality in it’s design, using cartoon animation by Disney animator Don Bluth. The action sequences are all animated, and timing is crucial in succeeding in Dirk’s rescue mission.

Biggest memory—It was a great time for music for sure. Lot's of amazing bands doing shows in smaller venues and some great stadium shows.
Plenty of fun parties most weekends.
Lots of skateboarding and surfing . . . Beaches up by county line were far less crowded.
Many afternoons spent in 7-11's and mini-markets playing the old staples of arcade games. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Huh, Dragonslayer actually works. Never noticed that. Same basic concept as Dragon's Lair. That kind of game would still look cool now, imo. It had a Tronnish semireality to it, lookswise. I remember watching an older teen playing that once and doing very well, but it was way too challenging to me at like 10 yrs old. Couldn't even get past the 1st level. I remember you had to make the knight jump to highlighted tiles on the floor (like Billie Jean tiles). Hard game. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
Do y'all remember Malibu/Showboat at Puente Hills mall?
I dunno what that is, bro, but in the early aughts I had to drive past the Back To The Future 1 Twin Hills Mall lot scene on Colima Ave err day. It was to my right and I would never fail to look down at it. The Penny's was still there til at least 2004 (last time I drove past).
But what you talking bout, Willis?
You remember the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose (Hercules) commercials? I wonder if anyone here went to see either of those when they were in SoCal.
Fotomats and Pioneer Chicken. Used to live by a Stater's that was next to both of those relics. Pioneer fish sticks were pretty good. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
Another thing, my sister texted me on Memorial Day that it was 39 yrs since she trekked w/ my other older sis to the US Festival in Devore/San Berdoo. We lived in Berdoo at the time, right nearby. My oldest sis who is 55 now had her entire room postered w/ VH and especially DLR pix from Creem magazine and the likes. No white spaces. She went to see David Lee Roth. Both of us are still VH fans to this day. That was her life goal, to see Diamond Dave. Probably hoping he was gonna wear his assless pants. David Bowie and Van Halen got paid 1.5 mill, which was the record for any concert acts at the time. It was a Steve Woz Wozniak production, there are videos on YT of him talking about it on site. The 3 day band list was pretty good to be honest, but the "Metal Day" was the biggest draw. The white kids back then listened to rock to a near default level. There were a sea of them there. I remember the former genius of an LG mod who went by "JD" telling me he went to the Metal Day. I miss him, he was rascal to put it mildly.

Malibu was an arcade with a racetrack behind it. Right next to it in the same parking lot was a boat ( can't remember if it was just a building shaped like a boat lol) that was also an arcade. You could see it from the 60 freeway.
Just did a bit of digging and it's now called Boomers. I always wanted to drive a go kart but we couldn't afford it then. Might have to check it out to scratch that itch lol.
I used to love Pioneer chicken. Had to look it up but apparently Popeye's bought out their locations and converted them to Popeye's franchises.
That location you mentioned. Was it in Hacienda Heights? Gale/Hacienda Blvd? _________________ KOBE

The BTTF 1 parking lot is on Colima Ave in the Rowland Heights area, but I think technically it was in Puente Hills because it was the PH Mall. I think it was close to where the cities connected. I know RH was part of it because you start seeing a lot of Korean writing on stores/signs around that area, it's an ethnic enclave city. I used to have to drive an hour from the IE to Norwalk and would just take Colima for a long stretch of the journey to sidestep the F'd 10 traffic. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

The underground clubs where they didn't even bother to check most of the time . . . Like Power Tools in the old MacArthur Park hotel. That place was downright surreal with GoGo dancers in cages and little people running around in baby bonnets and diapers serving drinks.

There was that crazy period in the mid '80's where good cocaine was actually easier to find and cheaper than decent pot. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I'm not a parent but do y'all let your kids just go to their friends and hang out afterschool? We grew up like that but all my siblings are all borderline helicopter parents. "Play date"? Wha?! _________________ KOBE
