I can echo the report making the rounds from
@jovanbuha
that in all likelihood, Darvin Ham will be fired by the end of the week. It's a matter of when vs. if. "The decision has basically been made," one source told me.

God, I wish people would stop acting like Irwin actually has sources. He just reported last week that Darvin was going to return next year.

On Darvin Ham:

On potential candidates :
“JJ [Redick] certainly is a real candidate if they do open up this coaching search but there’s I’d say a half a dozen folks out there included possibly … Tyronn Lue …”

Irwin is an idiot. I don’t know, maybe luck, but he did report the DJM trade rumor like a few days before Buha. Buha could have just used it to get clicks for the althletic. Nothing ever happened so who knows if it was all bs.

Darvin effed himself with rotations and managing the game.

Continuing to play Dinwiddie and Vincent (who were basically giving you zero points per game) when you had Christie on the bench was stupid. Christie showed he could play 2 way ball better than with Dinwiddie or Vincent.

Time out management was horrible. Did not give players breathers in Denver where the altitude effects endurance. Let teams go on runs without stopping the game to make adjustments. Went away from Lebron / AD pick and roll in the fourth quarter in favor of isolation basketball.

If this was his first year I would say give him a break but he has just completed his second year and should know how to do this by now.

Ham is one of those coaches who have one system and does not know how to change when the roster changes or when the other team makes adjustments. Watch the Denver series. Last two minutes of the half and the game. Denver goes to the Joker / Murray pick and roll every game and Ham makes no adjustment. I'm going to leave Reeves out on an island. No help. No trying someone else to guard Murray. Stupid.

Come on Buha, spill the beans

I want Darvin Ham to be cashiered out of this organization in the most humiliating way possible. The media reporting that he is fired before he himself even knows, etc.

Can't be any dirtier than how they did Vogel. He got fired as he was walking to the locker room after the last game. True scumbag move from Pelinka.

I never understood why they did that to Vogel. He's a good guy and a class act. And it came back to bite them because now some coaches don't want to work for the Lakers because of it.

It was leaked and I don’t think it was leaked by Rob. It appears that the Lakers FO has too many cooks in the kitchen like Magic once said. Too many people with their own agendas.

most likely leaked by the Rambii, hoping that leaves a bad taste on any future potential Laker head coaching candidates, so Kurt can just waltz right in and take the job. yes, i know i made this up, but giving all the facts, i don't think it's that far fetched. this ownership is a joke.

100% scummy. Glad they're giving Darvin respect, but still hope they can him. I don't know who the replacement should be but I find it hard to believe he'd be worse than Darvin.

Phil Handy will be given an opportunity to interview. Other names being mentioned internally are Kenny Atkinson, Billy Donovan, JJ Redick, and Scott Brooks, Mark Jackson and Terry Stotts. Search is focused on former players that have the tactical strategies Ham lacked.#Lakers

Billy Donovan... now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time...a long time...

Also no on JJ Redick. No Coaching Experience and would be there just to be LeBron's pacifier. Thanks but no thanks, stick to the podcast.

Back to Billy Donovan, I think he'd be solid. He's a good defensive Coach. I Don't remember much about his offense.

It was KD/Westbrook taking turns when he was on OKC. Not sure how much of it is him or if it's because that's really all those two guys can really do.

Indeed.

This mentality is definitely needed for the Lakers though

Just quoting random Twitter accounts? Any link, or just some random stuff on the internet?

Lakers should try something different although having Lebron here definitely complicates things.. Maybe someone completely out of left field here..

I'd take JJ with Ty Lue as an assistant.

I know people are out on JJ as a young guy with no coaching exp, but at least he knows basketball and has done it at all levels. I also imagine he is smart enough to pick talented and experienced assistants unlike Ham or Walton, who picked their frat bros. If you all recall, Vogel's best season with us he had an all-star assistant group supporting him.

Whoever it is though I hope they prioritize game feel, bball IQ, offensive and defensive acumen. No more cheerleaders or chemistry guys, I want a basketball genius.

Rather have Reddick.
Lue is a loser.

I'm not saying he can't, but it's so weird if JJ ends up the head coach after having done a podcast series with Bron...

It's a different story if he's an assistant coach though..

I'd love for the Lakers to hire Lue and then bring in Rondo as an assistant. That way, they could eventually have a future head coach in the pipeline.

When they hired Pat Riley, he had been a former player on a world championship team and an assistant. They had a great head coach in the pipeline when Magic got Paul Westhead fired.

Hiring Redick, though, could be a disaster. He would be another newbie, and he hasn't even been an assistant coach, plus it would look like a move to totally placate LeBron, which would be wrong.
