Dwayne Haskins was legally drunk at time of death, according to toxicology report

According to the toxicology report, two separate samples taken from Haskins' body had alcohol levels of .20 and .24, both of which are above the legal limit in Florida of .08.

According to the report, Haskins also tested positive for ketamine and norketamine, drugs that are used by medical professionals as anesthetics but that also have been known to be used recreationally.

.......

The medical examiner's investigation report stated that when Haskins' car was found on the side of the highway, a "female companion" was in the vehicle and told the Florida Highway Patrol that Haskins had left the vehicle to try to find gas. The woman's relationship to Haskins was not known, according to the report.

...........

According to the investigation report, a Steelers official told the medical examiner's office that the night before his death, Haskins went to dinner with a cousin or friend, whose name was "Joey," and then later went to a nightclub, "possibly in Miami."

"They drank heavily and at some point, they got into a fight, separating," the report states.

.............

A final crash report released by the Florida Highway Patrol in April said Haskins was walking on the westbound side of I-595 when he entered into the travel lanes and into the path of the dump truck, which was traveling in the center lane. The front left of the dump truck struck Haskins.

The report concluded that Haskins was improperly in the roadway, and the driver of the dump truck wasn't found to have taken any actions that contributed to the accident, based on the judgment of the investigation officer. Haskins was also struck by a second car traveling beside the dump truck that took evasive maneuvers to avoid him, but partially hit him on its right side undercarriage, according to the report.

This explains alot.

A "female companion" who was not his wife. That's going to sully his rep more than the booze & drugs.

Lawyer suggests Dwayne Haskins was “targeted and drugged” as part of “blackmail and robbery conspiracy”

One year ago yesterday, NFL quarterback Dwayne Haskins died after being struck by a dump truck on a highway in Miami. Many questions remain regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. His family is now trying to get answers.

In a statement issued to Les Carpenter of the Washington Post, attorney Rick Ellsley alleges that the driver of the dump truck bears responsibility for the accident. Buried in the lengthy statement is a separate — and eye-popping — contention.

“It is believed that Dwayne was targeted and drugged as part of a blackmail and robbery conspiracy,” Ellsley contends. “In fact, his highly-expensive watch was stolen from his shortly before his death.”

Ellsley adds that the lawsuit becomes “an important step in the process of uncovering the compete truth about this tragedy.”

Whatever the truth may be, here’s hoping it becomes fully uncovered. Whether the truck driver is responsible for the collision and/or whether someone else is responsible for drugging Haskins as part of a “blackmail and robbery conspiracy” become critical elements that must be explored.

As to the latter, it shouldn’t simply be the subject of a civil lawsuit. If Haskins was targeted and drugged, and if that drugging contributed to his death, there should be a criminal investigation, too.

I got a flat on the 110 Harbor Freeway. I pulled to the side to change the tire on the shoulder. My car was blown off the jack 3 times. It was in the 60's and jacks at that time weren't very stable. I finally decided to wait for help. There were no cell phones at the time. A passing tow truck stopped and changed the tire. IIRC it cost me $50.00.

California Highway Patrol recommends

Safely pull to the right shoulder

If you must exit the vehicle, exit on the right side of your vehicle, away from traffic

Once you arrange for assistance, return to your vehicle, get back into the vehicle from the right side (away from traffic), and put on your seat belt

Stay inside your vehicle with the seat belt on until help arrives

Personally, I'd get out of the vehicle, stand at the rear, and stay vigilant.

Sounds dangerous. I would rather destroy the rims on my vehicle and drive the car all the way to the freeway exit even if theres sparks coming out from it.

DMR and I had a whether or not to stay in the car discussion a while back. I don't remember exactly but IIRC getting out of the car was the better move. I was for getting out of the car DMR was for staying in the car. I'm conflicted. I've forgotten how that discussion ended.
