Slowly means Putin has lost. Russia likely goes bankrupt by the end of the year. Sanctions will only get worse. Russia will become a bigger version of North Korea if the war last 2 years.

Russia may default, but I don't think it will ever be broke. Considering they have a huge land mass where they can just dig their wealth out of the ground (precious metals, oil, gas, etc) and deal with other countries the west considers as bad actors. They will always have customers for their products.

Kinda like Russia would not be able to fight after another 10 days back in March?

If it goes another 2 years, there won't be much of Ukraine left to celebrate their "victory".

They'd still prefer that than living under Russian rule, I'm sure.

I’m sure as well. Point is, it’s going to be a very long time before this ends, despite the early predictions of Russia not being able to sustain their invasion.

Russia’s Only Aircraft Carrier: Officially A Piece Of Junk?

Quote:
Russia has just one aircraft carrier, the cursed Admiral Kuznetsov. It seems that this old warship has all sorts of problems and may never sail again. Why is this and what does this mean for the Russian Navy overall. We asked a top expert to explain: Those who expected to see the only Russian aircraft carrier on the seas soon are in for a surprise as the vessel is still plagued by issues.

We will see. I think it ends before winter (Dec. 21). My guess is Russia withdraws or collapses.

(Revealing the hidden casualties of one elite Russian regiment in Ukraine - BBC Newsnight)

Quote:
Amid reports of low morale and high casualty numbers in Ukraine's Donbas, BBC Newsnight revisits Russia's 331st Guards Parachute Regiment, considered "the best of the best."

The Donbas has become a battle of attrition with high casualties on both sides, BBC Newsnight charts the impact of the war on the Russian side from the 331st regiment's home in Kostroma to the evolution of symbols painted on their tanks.

In April, we confirmed 39 soldiers had been killed but now BBC Newsnight estimates the total number of casualties to be between 400-500, almost half of the regiment's strength from the beginning of the war.

Newsnight's Diplomatic Editor Mark Urban analyses official and social Russian media to continue the story of the elite unit who are still trapped in a conflict that's claiming more and more lives.

According to Russia’s press releases, they’ve destroyed more military hardware than Ukraine ever had

Proekt's journalists analyzed the Russian Defense Ministry’s reports

5:47 am, June 30, 2022

Journalists from the investigative news site Proekt have analyzed all of the statements made by Russian Defense Ministry representative Igor Konashenkov since the start of the war. They found a number of inconsistencies — specifically regarding the order in which Russia captured Ukrainian territories and the amount of Ukrainian equipment Russia claims to have destroyed.

To start, there are 25 villages and towns whose capture the Defense Ministry has reported at least twice. The capture of Kreminna was reported four times, while the captures of Borovenki, Taramchuk, and Novomayorskoye have been reported three times each. Some of Konashenkov’s press releases have mentioned places that don’t exist — for example, the “Pavlohrad region” from an April 17 press release.

Proekt also found that the Russian Defense Ministry has reported destroying 84 Bayraktar drones, which is about 20 more Bayraktars than Ukraine has ever officially had in its arsenal. The number of armored vehicles Russian has allegedly destroyed (3,800) is significantly higher than the number Ukraine had before the war (2,416, according to Russian reports), and the number Ukraine has received from the West (700) isn’t enough to account for the difference.

Proekt’s reporters also noted two phrases that appear frequently in Russian reports: “areas of accumulated Ukrainian manpower and equipment” and “Ukrainian strongholds.” In the first 100 days of the war, Russia reported destroying 39,000 of these targets. Proekt’s journalists don’t know exactly what these terms imply, but they noted that the total number of vehicles Russia claims to have destroyed is 9,175, while the number of Ukrainian soldiers they claim to have killed is 40,000.

Not sure why it's hardly ever talked about, but I'm wondering when we are going to start holding China and India accountable for buying Russian oil? It's honestly a spit in the face to Western nations that are sacrificing at the pump, and with general inflation, especially from India, who is deemed more of an ally to the West (and US) than China, when these countries buy somewhat cheaper oil from Russia. Not sure about the exact answer, but maybe some new rounds of sanctions against the two as long as they continue to buy?

And how exactly would you do that? The USA is dependent on China and India. Don't forget that while India is considered a democracy, they have historical ties with Russia going back centuries.
