Who's most to blame for the Lakers falling apart after winning a championship?

I don't know how true it is but it's my understanding LeBron asked for and got the older players on this season's roster. If Jeanie went along with Bron's wishes it showed poor judgment. I'm going to lay most of the blame at the feet of Jeanie Buss. The Buck Stops Here

Jeanie allowed a youthful championship roster to be dismantled for an older more experienced team. The talent is there but a very important ingredient is missing, chemistry. This team does not fit. Also, injuries played a part.

Having said all of that I'll admit I, along with many basketball aficionados, had the Lakers and the Nets in the finals. Now I'm hoping we make the playoffs.

MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎅🎄

There's only one GM. Since we don't know who pulled what strings, it's those in charge who are by default the most culpable. Injuries and ownership a close 2nd.

We all do. Anyone that embraced the James all-in plan had to see this coming at some point.

We experienced the upside of a championship, now we endure the downside of having to pay the bill for the decision.

LeBron truly has the power on this team. He drives the decision making on the team. If you don't play ball, he looks elsewhere.
So he gets all the accolades but just the same will get all the blame.

Just use the James option.

Is there really any difference or separation of the two?

For those who picked Rob... go stand in front of a mirror and say the words... "Rob Pelinka is more powerful than LeBron James"

If you can't see how absurd you look saying those words, I don't know how else to convince you that you are wrong.

Fair enough. No player / agency should have that much influence.

80% Jeannie for giving LBJ (20%) full control. Pelinka 0% because he is not making any decisions.

Nothing happens with the Lakers roster without LeBron's approval.

I just wanted to say whoever's to blame for the current poor showing, is also likely who was to blame for the championship that we got

And I think the logical answer is.... a group of people. Bron, Pelinka, Jeannie, to a certain extend AD and the coaching staff hopefully..

Looks like I'm the only one who thinks Jeanie is most to blame.

I chose her because she makes the final decision. When Dr. Buss ran the team he deligated but made the final decision. He took ownness for those decisions. IMO that ownness now belongs to Jeanie. For example, she sidelined Jim Buss.

Bron should be consulted about roster slots and his wants should be considered but Jeanie is the door closer.

I don't know if Ron voiced his opinions on constructing the roster. If he did he shares some blame, making him my second choice for most to blame.

Remember, "Who's most to blame" is the question. IMO, its Jeanie.

I did. I enjoyed the Warriors/ Suns game. Both teams played at a high level and was thoroughly entertaining.

Then I watched the Laker game. Such a difference.

I am enjoying basketball. It's a beautiful game when well played. The Dubs are lighting it up. I watch but don't get much enjoyment watching Lakers games. I don't enjoy losing.

If Rob can’t say no to Lebron, that’s also his fault. Don’t take the job if you lack the ability to see Russ is a poor fit and DAJ is washed up and all you know how to do is say “yes sir Lebron.” A good GM would have said this is a bad idea and prepare a simple video showing how easy it is to scheme against a Russ team. But Rob is likely dumb enough to have thought Russ’s stats would simply be added to what AD/Lebron do.

It’s literally his job to take the blame. No one credited Klutch or LeGM after we won the title and now half the people here want to blame them.

Rob and Jeanie should be the only options on here.

The whole situation is weird. We don't really know what Rob is without Klutch/Lebron basically making all the big decisions. At some point, you gotta put your foot down. My gut feeling is that Rob wanted to do the Hield deal, but since Bron/AD/Russ had a "meeting," he gave in to them. It hasn't turned out well, this is where Rob needs to takeover, and takeover for good. Not all this is Russ' fault, but the roster just don't mix, and someone has to go, and that someone is Russ. RP needs to make a trade or it's RIP season.

You would do the exact same thing in Rob’s position, as would everyone else. The stars have a lot of influence on the team, that’s how NBA works, making.a video to show lebron how Russ wouldn’t fit is basically telling your star player he is dumb, so that’s a no go. I also credit klutch for that title because they basically forced AD here. My issue with rob is how the rest of the roster was filled, not a single backup 4 knowing AD is injury prone? Tons of 6’4 under guards.

Until the media starts calling people out it doesn’t matter who is to blame, nothing will change. I agree with the OP, the blame begins at the top. With the exception of one unprecedented season with a 4.5 month midseason break, the teams have been unspectacular under Jeanie’s watch.

Wish we fought harder to keep Zo or BI in the AD deal. We were bidding against ourselves. Any other team would’ve been trading for AD with the fear of it being a rental.
