At least the padres lost so the brewers gain a game on them.

If they DFA’d him tonight I would not object at all.

I can’t believe we’re on pace for 110+ wins with Kimbrel on the team.

There’s a good chance Kimbrel will be out of baseball next year. Yet, he’s been our closer all year

Sometimes, stats don't lie.

Kimbrel, since he left Boston in 2018:

Quote:
2019 - Cubs: 6.53 ERA, 1.60 Whip
2020 - Cubs: 5.28 ERA, 1.43 Whip
2021 - Cubs: 0.49 ERA, 0.71 Whip
2021 - White Sox: 5.09 ERA, 1.22 Whip
2022 - LAD: 4.57 ERA, 1.55 Whip

Every team acquiring Kimbrel is just chasing what he did in 2021 with the Cubs. That looks like a mirage now.

DFA him, honestly. He's the least trustworthy arm in the pen.

Not only should Craig Kimbrel be nowhere near the mound in the 9th inning come October, there’s a legitimate case he shouldn’t be on the postseason roster

Assuming everyone is healthy, he’s probably the 14th or 15th best option on the pitching staff

Almonte, Anderson, Gonsolin, Graterol, Heaney, Kershaw, Martin, May, Phillips, Treinen, Urías, Vesia

Those 12 should be locks if everyone is healthy. Then you add Price and Ferguson as the final choices, as both have been fantastic.

Yup, there's something about this regime where it's so difficult for them to move on from a struggling closer. I don't know what it is...

Braves signed Michael Harris II to a 8-year, $72m contract with team options of $15 and $20 for 2031/32, effectively buying out 4 free agent years. Right now he's the youngest kid in the majors and has an .825 OPS and plays great outfield defense. It's looking like he could be a 30/30 guy at his peak. If he wins ROTY they'll have bought out 5 years of free agency. Man, their front office is on fire.

This is what I was saying about how we're unwilling to do this type of deal. So far, they've signed:

Acuna
Albies
Harris
Riley
Olson

The ones they failed to sign: Fried, Swanson, Freeman

They lost Freeman, let's see what happens to Swanson and Fried.

Swanson may leave for a huge contract this offseason. Fried is a local LA-area guy, so that could be interesting for the Dodgers if he reaches free agency. And he's great. And Freddie can recruit him! Fried is going to be a relatively "old" free agent though, as he's already 28 (turns 29 a little after the season ends), and he still has two more arb years after this one. So he'll be a 31-year-old in his first free agent year. That said, if he keeps this level, he will be very highly pursued. I love everything about him as a pitcher, I suppose other than the fact that he's never pitched more than 166 innings, though he's on pace to approach 200 this year. Still, maybe that means he'll have more bullets as he enters his 30's.

I didn't see the game today, as this was my tennis night. As aprevo15 said, at least the Brewers gained a game on the Padres. They are now only 1 game behind them. It appears that Kimbrel really has just lost it. It's hard to argue with LBP's illustration of his numbers over the past 3-4 years other than the stint with the Cubs last year before the trade. The velocity is there but something just isn't working, whether it's not landing the breaking ball or missing location with the fastball. It's hard to argue with the results, and any optimism I had is long gone. We really need Treinen to return as the same reliable guy he's always been. Make him the closer and leave Phillips to do what he's been doing.
