Honestly, I’ve never even heard of this guy and I feel like I’m pretty we’ll tuned in on the pulse of the team.
Given how hot the Phillies have been, this could be either good (as they may not have a scouting report on him) or really bad as they may just tee off on him.
Either way, I’m not sad to see the Phils leave town today |
Grove was our 1st or 2nd rd pick a few years ago. I think he's consistently been top 15 in our system over the years. |
Crazy I’ve never heard of him. All the pitching chatter has always been Pepiot, Andre Jackson, Bobby Miller and Mitch White.
This dude has flown under my radar, it seems |

Yeah, he was never a top pitching prospect. I think he's been disappointing in our system.
His minor league stats:
1-10
6.90 ERA
I think the only reason he's been top 15 all this time is due to his potential and his injuries. The only reason why he started today was because he's already on the 40 man roster.
Quote: | As a sophomore in 2017, he had a 2.87 ERA with 61 strikeouts in 47 innings before his season ended because of an arm injury. He underwent Tommy John surgery in May 2017.
Despite the injury he was picked in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, though he did not play in a professional game until 2019 when he made 21 starts for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.[
The 2020 season minor league season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Grove was added to the player pool and trained at the alternate site at the University of Southern California.
He played in 21 games for the Tulsa Drillers in 2021, where he was 1–4 with a 7.86 ERA in 21 games (19 starts).
Grove was added to the Dodgers 40-man roster in November 2021. |

At least we have our ace going tonight. Hopefully he can lock it down for 6-7.
Lineup:
Markus Lynn Betts
Frederick Charles Freeman
Trea Vance Turner
William Dills Smith (Designated Hitter)
Justin Matthew Turner
Maxwell Steven Muncy (2b)
Christopher Armand Taylor Jr.
Austin Scott Barnes
Gavin Thomas Lux |

I had to look up which pitcher you were talking about. Well I'll be...Tony Gonsolin has a 1.33 ERA? Where'd this come from? _________________ KOBE |

Well his FIP is ~3.5.
But a bit of luck and low innings has made for some good results. And he's not just pitching against bad teams - pitched well against ATL and SFG, and was our only win in the PIT series. |

Honestly kind of the story of his career thus far - you watch, see him nibble and struggle, wait for him to implode . . . and he just sort of doesn't? 2.6 career ERA (granted, only 169 IP). |

Damn these balls are not flying. I thought both Lux and Betts were homeruns. It sounded like it was going out. |

Just heard we're the only team in mlb scoring 5 runs a game.
That's amazing considering how badly we're swinging the bats.
Basically we have:
- no one hitting .300
- no one slugging .500
- no one with an ops over .900
- no one on pace for 30 HRs (ok, just checked, Betts is now on pace for 33 HRs)
Yet, we're scoring the most runs in mlb. Amazing. |

Guess what, we didn't score with a guy on 3rd and less than 2 outs!
I'd trust the Orioles in that situation more than us. It's unreal. |

JT misses a high flyball over his head. It was a bit difficult but still more than catchable.
Trea did a Lux. |

Dino Ebel holding up Freeman again.
I don't know how many times that's worked out for us. Holding a runner up only for the next guy to end the inning with an out.
The way I see it, if the next guy is hitting .150, then we only need a 20% chance to send the runner...
20% is better than 15%
But Ebel waits for like a 90% chance before he sends anyone.

I guess bad defense is contagious. Betts gets a triple. Game is tied. |

3-2 Dodgers. Freeman with a double to drive in Betts. |

Freddie is just so good. I love him. And he broke the curse of a guy on 3rd with less than 2 outs haha.
Also, Freddie would've been out by a mile on that ball hit by JT. Just wasn't deep enough and Peralta has a cannon. They showed a replay from field level and he would've been out by a lot. |

Wow, the bunting practice today worked! We really need to see more of that. It's a guaranteed hit if you get it down. Then the 2-run homer! Like a free run. |
