The coach of Inglewood high was fired from Hawkins in 2016 for using ineligible players. They had to vacate all wins. Something seems fishy with his recruiting as well. All of his seven NCAA commits are transfer students.

I dunno theres some high school sports programs that are pretty shady. How come a couple of schools always manage to get all the potential future professional athletes.

If they are private, then it is because they recruit them with scholarships (and other stuff ). If they are public, there can be illegal recruiting.....but it can also be self selecting or demographics.

A while back, I recall reading an article pointing out that the worst high school athletic teams often are located in sprawling lower middle/middle class districts. Basically it is often mostly white youth absent the money and resources for advanced development. In upper middle and wealthy districts, while still often mostly white, the athletes have often had additional development via personal training, travel teams, etc. Finally, dense urban teams often have more minority students that are often simply better athletes.

Was the mercy rule applied? If it was, DAMN!!!

I loved that the Morningside coach called them out and said you want to play against equivalent talent, go play the other local private school powerhouses, and don't be jerks and run up the score against us. That should be the outcome - have them play the others, and show them what true competition for their talent caliber will look like, in order to further help them prep for their future college careers, instead of instilling bad habits like they did. Also glad the district is looking into it. Coach's background from Inglewood is also pretty sketch.

I'm talking about those religious schools, charter schools or academies that seem to hoard aspiring professional talent. These are the schools that somehow have to funding to go touring against other schools, whether its to play them cross country or regions that a public high school would have zero financial resources to.

Going for a 2 pt conversion up 104-0 is about as classless as it gets.

It is interesting that the victim was Morningside as years ago the Morningside Girls Basketball Team with Lisa Leslie basically did the same thing to South Torrance High School.

If I remember correctly, Leslie had over 100 points....at halftime.

Karma is a (bleep).

Sure, they recruit just like a college, and play national schedules which pretty much guarantees D1 offers. IMG (outside Tampa) backups in football usually will get Division 1 offers. Montverde Academy (outside Orlando) has more NBA 1st Round selections than Duke over the last decade. These schools are usually full time boarding schools....which basically is like college.

Honestly, schools like IMG, Monteverde, Mater Dei, Sierra Canyon, etc. are not the problem. They are well established and offer legitimate education. It is these fly by "academies" that pop up out of nowhere and usually will attach themselves as a joint venture with private religious school. They basically pay the school for the educational piece, but are just mostly basketball factories that as soon as they cannot make the payment, they cease to exist.
