Why are the Lakers so mediocre at rebounding given their size advantage most nights?
Happy to see this strange weakness become a non-issue as this season progresses. _________________ Under New Management |

You got me Baron, this came up in the game thread.
When the team got Russ (and then Dwight, etc) the general theme / narrative surrounding that was we will play physical / big and bully teams. Thus far, that is not this team's identity whatsoever. So many good rebounders but getting whacked on the glass. _________________ "One thing I admire about Kuzma is his unwavering confidence. I think it's because they're frequently in a scramble situation defensively trying to recover from a mistake or someone who got burned. That takes them out of good rebounding position. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |

Against Spurs this cannot happen. They are terrible in the paint , they basically don't have any big guys except Poeltel and he is average NBA player. Expect from AD, DH and DJ to beast in this one. We have to outrebound them. No excuses. |

This team practices considerably less than other teams due to their age dont they? Free throws, boxing out. These are things that you practice. Even Tiger Woods had to spend a few hours practicing his putting before every tournament. You can’t just rely on “you knew how to do it before”. You knew how to do it before because you worked harder than everybody else. |

Maybe it’s cause they’re allowing too many wide open shots by the opposition. And normally if you give a professional ball player 6ft+ in space, they will knock that MFer down….hence no defensive rebound to be had.
We’re 2nd to Htown and 3rd to Htown & NY (who had a double OT game), in giving up the most “wide open” total field goal/3point attempts respectively.

Last night in particular, the Grizz doubled up on us on the offensive boards at 18 to 9. It resulted in them having 16 more shot attempts than we did (100 to 84). _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

Kinda feel like we have "superstars" who kind of don't want to muck it up in the paint, and the work is beneath them. |

Yeah, I've been concerned about rebounding since the pre season when we finalized our roster. We are not balanced size-wise because we lack athletic 3s/4s off the bench. Even when our four injured players return, it may not matter much as far as rebounding goes because three of them are guards, and Ariza is a 37 year-old coming off of a foot injury.
Against the Warriors and Suns, we had sequences where we had 3-4 Lakers on the floor sized 6'4" and shorter. That clearly contributes to the problem of rebounding.
However, I agree that last night was weird because we had personnel on the floor that should've dominated the boards in some stretches (AD/LeBron/Dwight and even Westbrook). Perhaps Vogel getting more minutes out of some of them took its physical toll. You had LBJ clocking in at 40 minutes in regulation on a banged up leg.
Maybe that combination had him coast a bit at attacking the boards (he had six, but Dwight had only one!). Pelinka should've given the Lakers a legit 6'7" - 6'9" defensive backup forward so he can rest more. We don't need a million guards. |

^^^ Effort is extremely important, and is the one thing that the player himself is in complete control of influencing his game.
However, a decent rebounding IQ and natural physical ability are also critical. Even if our players make "smart" attempts to rebound the ball (boxing out, playing the angles, proper positioning, etc.) a team still needs gamers with the height, width, jumping ability, stamina etc. to be able to succeed vs. the opposing team doing the same. |

Here some simple math:
Rebounds + Defense = 50% winning percentage _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

Russ is an elite rebounder for his position.
Bron is elite when he wants to be.
AD is very good when he wants to be.
Dwight is an elite rebounder.
Up and down our roster we have guys that are great rebounders. I haven't watched as many games this season but I was shocked by the fact that OkC dominated us on the boards. We should be blowing teams out in that category no? Are guys loafing? _________________ KOBE |
