I'd like to hear more about this. Why do you think they "want to march" and what is your impression of what is behind that desire and to what goal?

that's where it's a little murky. Some reports are that people are marching because:
1) content of his special. yet as someone pointed out did they march when 12yr old girls were twerking ( I didn't see that special. Only regurgitating).

2) Because people got fired for apparently leaking info about special (money spent etc). Those who got fired claimed they didn't leak yet washed their phones.

If someone has a problem with wages, treatment etc. That validates marching. If you work for a platform dedicated to the arts and it bothers you what they distribute just leave.

Personally, if people walked out on the principle that's fine, but there are a lot shows much worse that didn't seem to bother them like this.

Doesn't ContagiousInspiration video post address this?

So Chappelle says he is willing to meet with any Netflix employees and any members of the transgender community that have a problem with what he said, but only if they watched the entire special from beginning to end, and only if they are willing to admit that Hannah Gadsby is not funny.

I love this guy. I can't help it.

doesn't the need to explain oneself defeat the purpose of art?

No. Abstract art. An art form that begs explanation. What is the artist trying to convey?

Abstract art is to make you think.

The minute an artist has to tell us why, changes everything. He is a black man who has had a life of dealing with issues probably similar to LGBQT community. However, from his show he would say worse. So his perspective is only his.

The best part is that Netflix employees want to march. We stifle everything as a society. The minute art...which it already has in some respects, stops being able to be whatever it wants , it's curtains.

Relating to abstract art. It is to make you think and the artist doesn't have to explain him/herself. It would be interesting for me to see if we were in, at, or near the same mindset.

Where was all this same energy when he was playing crackheads and joking about black people and virtually every other demographic?

He told a few jokes to make a comparison and certain people got triggered.
Nothing to see here.

That’s the problem. Fake outrage is a thing now. In the context or art nothing should be off limits.

There is a huge amount of violence targeting transgender people, especially transgender women. When people with a public platform pile on to the bigotry (whether joking or not) it can only lead to more violence. This is not nothing. This is not about people being triggered. This is about a vulnerable population with a target on it's back being made into a bigger target. And JK Rowling's bigotry is deplorable too.

You don't have to be transgender to empathize with transgender people. You don't have to be black to empathize with black people. We have a dysfunctional culture that fosters bad feelings toward "others." To emphatically conclude this is simply "fake outrage" demonstrates both a lack of knowledge and a lack of empathy.

The same thing applies when male comedians objectify women in their comedy routines. Women are already targets of violence and objectifying them and denigrating them gives more people permission to treat them as objects. Similarly, after the former guy made Asians a target over the source of the COVID pandemic, violence against Asians in this country increased dramatically. That's not fake, that's fact.

Words spoken in the public realm can provoke violence. The more honest response might be that you don't care if a comedian's "jokes" might provoke violence against transgender people. If you were the target of the joke and it provoked violence against you personally, you wouldn't be so quick to say, "It's just comedy!" That's where the empathy part comes in.

Transgender individuals and communities experience shocking amounts of violence and discrimination.

More than one in four trans people has faced a bias-driven assault, and rates are higher for trans women and trans people of color.

Why is anti-trans violence on the rise in America?

Yikes. So comedians need to watch who they make fun of because of potential violence? Does this only applies to minorities? This kind of post is exactly what Chappelle was going on about in his stand up and I can't believe how what he was trying to get across went over about 95% of people's heads.
