Monk and Dennis have no bearing as they came from completely different circumstances.
Again, Dennis was #2 in the 6MOY before we traded for him. He had an established history with the NBA; Monk had some substance abuse issues, etc. so his value dropped lower.
Right now, I think the argument is that we have bigger needs (pun intended) at stretch big (Mo is my #1 overall FA target) and big wings. No one is really saying Monk is a bad player, but more of a luxury to have considering our needs at other positions.
This is the residue of the horrible Russ trade, which wouldn't have happened IMO if we kept Dennis/KCP/Kuz/AC/22nd pick. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

In an ideal world, would love to get Mo and keep Monk. If we had the under-the-table skills that the Clippers seem to have, could say that we would take care of him once we get his Early Bird rights in 2023. But that's too much of a gamble for Monk. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Monk is for offensively challenged teams. That Lou Will off the bench type.
We need length and ability to defend. |

Mo doesn't have great analytics, hopefully his fit with AD makes up for that? I don't see giving him too much, or maybe the numbers are wrong? |

I have no confidence in Bamba but maybe he's the right fit next to AD
My favourite on the 5 would be Hartenstein but I prefer to give the MLE to an Otto Porter type of player or a hard nosed defender like Cam Thomas (he'll get more) _________________ White guy to white guy alley oop |

I'm with you on that. I wanted us to grab Hartenstein last year. OPjr would be a great get, and Cam's a baller. |

Monk is a luxury that we wouldn't be wise to waste our tMLE on. |

Dagnabit. I knew in all likelihood we wouldn't be able to keep Malik and he's not even a perfect fit for our needs (although I do think he's a good player). But on a team of guys where are a lot of the guys I don't have a feeling about one way or the other I really really *like* Malik. So I'm going to miss having him on the Lakers. But I'm glad he's got a good situation for himself and I hope he is successful in Sacramento. To the extent that one can be in Sacramento. |

Year after year, the Lakers have taught me not to get emotionally close to any player, so I’m as disconnected as I’ve ever been. Monk was just a face that I’m ambivalent to. I’m glad I didn’t buy his jersey. |

Monk signed for $9m. So guess Lakers didn’t want to give him the $6m MLE _________________ |

This is a big loss you need to get offense from somewhere? Most of the offense besides comes LBJ and AD (if he plays), the rest of the reliable offense came from Monk and Carmelo. The other guys Jones etc. are just bench players. Maybe is Westbrook decides to come off the bench, not enough. |

Monk and Fox reunited. Sac didn’t do it the first time around… _________________ “You have to dance beautifully in the box that you are comfortable dancing in.” - Kobe Bryant |

I'm going to miss Monk. Sad to think that, at this point, this already bad team is even worse because of his departure. |

Bonus Winshares:
Quote: | The Lakers’ team leader in Bonus Wins last season was one of the least famous players on the roster: Malik Monk.
On the court, he offered roughly the same productivity as Westbrook. But by contributing more than four eWins for under $2 million, Monk was a legit difference-maker, generating a tidy 3.86 Bonus Wins for the Lakers. He’s a model for the kind of player who can help stars like LeBron win titles, and the reason we created Bonus Wins.

Wished Lakers could’ve kept him. _________________ Tacos |
