The Lakers will win the championship, but not this season. After they retool this roster with younger players and find a way to grow a team together, building solid chemistry, they will be back on the championship trail. Yes, it's cliche, but they play for championships and the front office will always has always had the knack for getting luring the big name player. It will happen again, just not anytime soon

We have signed two big name FAs in 26 years. That is a fact.

Yes we need to trade the four players currently on our roster who are making $149 million next season. Purging Klutch is the only way we win again.

Lakers' problems can't be saved by the past halo of the brand name. the ownership needs to go. backward thinking, nepotism, afraid of changes, and always cutting corners on $$$ has no business of owning the Lakers or any other pro sport franchise in today's age.

Every superstar in the league would sign with LA over any other team, as long as the roster is minimally capable of providing them some respite in carrying a full load.

All we need is a duo to hit the market the same year and go after them in tandem. With these short-term contracts I like the Lakers chances.

Kawhi says “hello.”

KD: “how’s it going?”

And Paul George.

They'll need to find a Jokic in the second round. I believe in them.

The current FO is too incompetent even for such a task. They have a hard time doing that for their current stars as this season shows us.

The lakers being an attractive location for FA's is a bit neutered as long as jeanie, pelinka, and the rambii are in control.

let's say ownership rights this ship this summer. still bron and AD (hopefully monk and reaves). get rid of russ and the geezer vet mins.

either get frank a decent coaching staff or cut frank and get someone like quinn snyder.

yes, they are the lakers, but they will always be at a financial disadvantage. no, i'm not talking about Jeanie... i'm talking about california state income tax AND the $10,000 SALT cap.

use to be yeah we have high state income tax, BUT there was no limit to the write offs we could use against the federal income tax.

after 2017, the MILLIONS these players pay in CA state income tax is just a flat out sunk cost. that's' a lot of bread to just toss into the fire.

compare that to states like taxes who have NO state income tax, period.

I don't think that's true. You are simply falling prey to the idea of "Laker exceptionalism" that has torpedoed the franchise more than once.

Certainly, the Lakers will always have a disproportionate advantage because of our history and market.

But not every star wants to play here. And stars generally require more than a roster that "is minimally capable of providing them some respite in carrying a full load."

The only way we win the ship in the next 2-3 seasons is:

1) LeBron signs a 1 year vet min deal in the Summer of 2023 when his contract is up and keeps signing a 1 year vet min until he retires.

2) We sign a MAX player in that 2023 Summer.

3) AD finally gets a new trainer and changes his body instead of skinny fat.

4) Lakers miraculously draft Bronny in the 2024 NBA Draft.

2024-2025 Lakers

PG: Bronny
SG: Max player
SF: LeBron
PF: AD
C: MLE

Head Coach: Rajon Rondo

I've never gotten the sense that state income tax is as big a factor with the players as fans sometimes think.

Not happening until we get an elite modern basketball front office.

It might not even be possible until Jeanie sells and we get ownership that can hang in the modern high $ sports franchise operation.

I like your optimism, I just think the path is super murky and it probably needs to be a 2024 plan not a 2023 plan based available players that would make a difference. That said, the Lakers absolutely need to take advantage of the fact they can clear cap to zero in 23-24 or 24-25 if needed even if it means sucking royally next year.

If the Lakers use the cap/contracts wisely, a championship I think would be feasible in 24-25 assuming they "hit" on at least 2 stars and 3 solid complementary pieces with that cap and then fill in with proper depth/coaching/chemistry. That would require:

A) Front Office willing to go over cap for another championship in 24-25

B) Either trade AD/THT for a single young star or extend them past 24-25 for roster depth assuming that move is a positive one in terms of a "healthy" championship roster.

C) Land 2-3 "star" pieces in either 2023 - Wiggins? DLO? Turner? OR better yet in 2024 - (PG/KL/Dame if opted out), KAT, Klay, Booker, Edwards, Wiseman, LaMelo, Lonzo if opted out, DDR, Siakam, CJ, Jalen Brown. Imagine pairing Lonzo and LaMelo with AD & KAT....

D) Find a coaching staff that focuses things that win in playoffs - defense and team ball (Oddly enough that could be Vogel with the right supporting cast).

So, simple, yes???

That doesn’t matter, the fact is that Pelinka would have traded every young player for AD.
