Even if Ariza gives us good 3-and-D play, we still need another forward like that with legit size who is actually in his 20s.
Even when healthy we're too thin in the frontcourt, and besides AD all of our frontcourt players are old. Bazemore and THT don't count because they're better off playing the 2.
I was reasonably pleased with Ariza's play tonight in a win vs. the Knicks, although it was predictable that he'd get some minutes since NY has a big front line and we are without Carmelo while still being roster thin at the 3/4 slots. His outside shot was iffy (like usual), but he made his FTs and grabbed eight rebounds (which has been a team weakness all season).
Trevor's main contribution was seen on the defensive end, though. Not so much in locking down any particular opponent, but his size and attention to detail helped the overall team defense to make it difficult at times for NY to score. Considering how often Vogel's gone with 3 and even 4 guard lineups this season, I appreciated seeing extended minutes in a game where our front line were all legit players of size when Ariza was on the floor.
Good effort from Ariza (11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block.
TA made a big three in crunch time and played heady defense most of the night (+11).
Well, in this game the Ariza vs Johnson call paid off in Vogel's favor.
. I think Ariza and Johnson next to Monk, Bron, Davis should be the closing line up... if they are sagging off from johnson too much than reeves but def not westbrook
That three - Lebron really wanted Trev to get the ball there that whole play, almost like a fake with AD, so Ariza could hit a clutch shot. If I am reading that right, then Lebron with the psychology and leadership, getting guys ready.
I honestly beleive that Ariza is just rounding into basketball shape. His slow start was the result of him working through his recovery from injuries and, of course, his age.
I'm expecting him to contribute to any chance we have to show some sort of continuity and consistency if he stays healthy the rest of the way
They will mostly limit themselves to street clothes during the regular season so they have enough juice to show out in the postseason.
Problem is, we don’t have the luxury (pun-intended) of young legs to carry us through the regular season so that our vets can prevent taxing their legs to stay fresh for the playoffs. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

All I’m looking for from him is 20-25mins of wing defense (so Bron doesn’t have to do it) along with a few timely shots in the postseason. Save his legs during the regular season and I feel that really ain’t a big ask from him. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

Granted a lot of RS missed games and only 4 PS games last season, but 20-25mins per for the playoffs ain’t a ridiculous ask. It is ridiculous tho that he is our only defensive wing on the roster behind Bron. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

Can you really call Trevor a defensive wing? Who is he guarding on the wing?
I supported the signing because I thought he could run on the break. He gets ZERO hustle baskets. He was never a lockdown defender in the first place. His value was in his hustle plays, steals in the passing lanes. He doesn't do that anymore. We get that from Stanley.

If Lakers FO does not consider as top priority acquiring a 6-8 or so forward with some defensive ability so we could sit Ariza, then everyone, from Lebron James down lol should be fired. This is the most glaring weakness of this team. _________________ Lakers fan since that Magical day June 25, 1979.
Coincidence they signed Luol Deng after his 2016 season (12 Pts 6 Reb 2 Ast) in Miami and Trevor Ariza after his 2021 season (10 Pts 5 Reb 2 Ast) in Miami and they were the exact same player. Fortunately, Trevor wasn't signed to a 4 year, $72 million contract.
