Ariza played 28mpg last season. Which I had no idea. All we need him to do is play 18 of solid D and shoot. Expecting anything more would be crazy but I do think that role can make a small difference. Hopefully Nunn can come in and be an absolute stud though... we need that.

I wonder who sits when Nunn comes back. It’s not going to be THT, but right now I kinda wish it were. Ellington probably gets the bench.

I'd sit THT. Wayne's shooting is a major plus. Monk and Nunn should both be getting 6th mean type mins. Or start one of them.

I get the logic but Frank is going to play THT and hope his defense improves. If a "who do you sit" poll happened I bet results would be all over the place.

Rumor was Ariza could have started and he currently represents their biggest need in a 3 and D forward....evermore so with Baze not playing. Vogel likes Nunn too, so once he gets full speed he may take Monk's minutes.

Monk is becoming a favorite, but if guys get healthy they might deal him (if mutual for PR) for another 3 and D forward to arm themselves with. We had way too many guards and then had a g leaguer make the rotation and waiver pickup start. LBJ is a 4 on defense and AD will still play a lot of 5. We need a guard for 3 and D swap at some point.

THT is likely gonna get traded IMO which should clear the door for Nunn and Monk to get bulk of the minutes.. who THT gets traded for.. I have no clue .. let’s just hope it’s not another Muscala type trade.

I hate selling low on THT but hope things in Indy get bad enough for the Turner for Nunn, THT and a 1st swap. AD would flourish with Turner behind him, and Turner gives a shooter for Russ/LBJ to find on pnr.

Russ 32/Monk 16/Rondo
AB 14/Ellington 14/Reaves 12/Monk 8
LBJ 24/Ariza 18/Melo 6/Baze
AD 24/Melo 16/LBJ 8
Turner 30/Howard 10/AD 8/DJ
With a slot open for a buyout

Back to Ariza though, his minutes as a defensive forward are so important in a lot of scenarios. Even with no trades he switches well enough on 4's to help LBJ. They really need him healthy and Baze to gain trust as a backup.

Ellington has been serviceable on defense, especially when surrounded by the right players. He's our most reliable shooter so hard to see him get the hook. Kind of annoying that neither of our microwave players (Melo, Monk) are that consistent on either end; it feels like we're stuck playing both because of that. Reaves probably draws the short straw here.

AD, Dwight
Bron, Melo
Ariza, THT
Ellington, Monk (maybe AB for D or if both are cold)
Russ, Nunn

There's room at SF and SG for minutes with Nunn shifting up or Bron shifting down. You can plug in Reaves and AB but it's hard to see Vogel going more than 10-deep in the playoffs. Can't emphasize enough how disappointed I am with Baze.

The only thing I am not sure of is if it's best if AD starts at the 5. To me it seems better for our defense when AD is at the 4 and then slides to the 5 after. This allows Dwight to take on the physical match ups and gives us extra length on defensive coverages and close outs/rotations to contest 3 pointers. To run it to it's best, we need Bron being active on D as well, as a 3.

Now Dwight/AD/Bron/Westbrook. Who is the right 5th guy there? Not AB, because while his defense is helpful, his offense is not consistent enough. We need that spot up shooter there who will also defend all out. I have a hard time determining who that player is at the 2/1. We have a lot of candidates but no one that clearly is the right option. I would stress the 3 point shooting of the 5th starter here is the heaviest weight we should give to choose. Which is why maybe Ellington (or Monk) could get a shot here.

The other option is to run AD/Bron/Ariza, and give up physicality inside. Gain offense through increased spacing and open paint. Westbrook+who else now? You definitely want an elite defender next to Westbrook in this scenario, as you don't have that dual shotblocking threat. Ugh, wish for this scenario we had a Caruso. Anyway, I think we would be best served trying a high motor defensive guy like Reaves or Bradley in this scenario. With AD at the 5, Bron at the 4, we already have more spacing. We will get up faster into the offense. Even if we don't have that money shooting 2, we should value a defensive guard that will stick to his man and not cause too much reliance on AD having to come out of the paint, Because when AD has to leave the paint alot, we don't have that second rim protection guy.

The most obvious thing to me here is to make a trade. We have so many players who could be decent in the right situation, but can't start here. I would try to package them for a starting level 2.

Laker fans should be used to selling low on their young players by now. When you consider the other option for us has been letting them walk out the door for nothing, the bottom-sell is infinitely preferable.

Cant believe that there is actually fans believing he will contribute to this team and seeing him as some kind of savior. Ariza is not factor in this league for at least 3 years. That is why I really didn't like this signing. Same goes for Jordan. These players are done.

He wasn’t even supposed to play last night. Hopefully he can give a good 6-7 minutes a half.

No doubt he and Nunn would have been huge if they were healthy at the start of the season.

I do think they signed him to be a starter. At the very least he's looking like he deserves big mins.

Always been a favorite of mine and will never forget his contributions in 09. He practically saved us from going down 0-2 vs Denver. That would have been the series right there. Should have stayed with the Lakers and retired here, but his agent did him in.

Yea I still remember he was a little shaky when he first joined the Lakers, then he became a legit 3&D guy

It was awesome to see Fizzy go with THT instead of Ariza.

Big minutes would be the dumbest thing that the Lakers could do. He should be a 15-18 mpg player. Unless they want to drive him back to the IR.

I don't disagree but as usual you just come in with your sassy remarks without saying anything of substance or contributive to a discussion.

AThe correct statement is that yeah it's a terrible idea for him to play more than 20mpg but Rob built roster where he is quite literally the only player who can shoot and defend at a consistent and high level.

Unless you like watching THT or DJ cost us games.

Ariza went for 28mpg last year on the Heat, after half a season off. I don't see any reason why he can't consistently play 20-24mpg once he gets some reps up. 15mpg is ludicrous, for what he provides
