If we finish as #7, but lose to #8, then beat #9 or #10….are we #8?

Or do we still keep our original #7 seed?

Yes, we are 8 in that scenario. 7 vs 8 is a battle for the 7th seed. Finishing 7 or 8 gives you extra life though because you can still play the winner of 9 & 10 for the 8th spot. I like how they're giving them a chance, but stacking the odds against the 9 & 10 teams.

It's funny how people covering NBA aren't fluent in the play-ins yet. In the past several weeks, I've been hearing Mychal Thompson and Ireland give wrong information about the play-in.

Yea it’s slightly confusing but makes sense. I always viewed it as if the 7 and 8 seeds were hypothetically up in a 7 game series by a count of 3-2….and just had to win 1 game with 2 chances.

While 9 and 10 seeds are down 2-3 and must win both remaining games.

Obviously the opponent changes in this “series”
