He was one of the most skilled big men prospects in history, elite measurable, but his criticism in college, from Shaquille O’Neal for some reason, was that he was soft, avoided contact. He had a blog in 2008, or so, which he wrote in detail his hatred for the Lakers, probably because of Shaquille. They had next! Brandon Roy, Aldridge, and Greg Oden. Damian Lillard, Nic Batum, and Aldridge. Asked out, got to San Antonio, heir apparent to Tim Duncan, could not win with Kawhi Leonard. Asked out, got to Brooklyn, tried to stack the deck again. Got sonned by Andre Drummond. He averaged 19 and 9 for his career, with stacked teams, with great coaches, and never won anything. Maybe Shaquille was right.

Comparable to Pau Gasol impact wise or not on the same level? _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
Comparable. That’s fair. Lemarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol were both 19 and 9 players. I don’t remember Lemarcus in the conversation for best at his position, in his peak, that was Blake Griffin or Kevin Love. I could say the same for Pau, in his peak, that was Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett. Charles Barkley tried to put Pau in the conversation with Dirk before that 2006 series. Charles was laughed at by Ernie and Kenny after every game for it. In fact, that 2006 series played out like that 2011 series. I guess the difference is the championships.

Not Hall. Throughout history there've been numerous guys like this, though. Very good, and consistently good players who just never got 'greatness' put by their names.
I do wonder what role his apparent heart condition played into the way he played his game, or the intensity/physicality (or lackthereof) of his game. But I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough about that stuff to venture a guess. _________________ "We got a new universe coming and he's going to control all our universes. Boarderline. The BB Hall isn't actually that hard to get into but he never won anything and was never the best at anything except maybe midrange jumper from a PF.

Pau is a 2X world champ as a 2nd option and has an amazing International Game resume. Take those away and they are fairly similar....
Aldridge will probably make it -- 19-8 over 15 seasons, 7 all-star games, 5 all-NBA teams is a reasonable HoF resume.
That compares favorably with a lot of guys they've let in recently -- Maurice Cheeks, Paul Westphal, Sidney Moncrief, Artis Gilmore.
Basketball reference says the players with the closest career arc to him are Chris Bosh, Elvin Hayes, Alex English, Detlef Schrempf and Horace Grant (in that order).
That said, the HoF is so mysterious in their introduction process it's not really clear why some guys get in and others don't.

I'd say Aldridge, Love and Griffin were more or less equivalent.
In terms of all-star/all-NBA appearances:
Aldridge - 7-5
Griffin - 6-5
Love - 5-3
None of them ever made an all-NBA first team or was in contention for the MVP. They're not Dirk/Duncan type players. They were/are all second-tier stars. But lots of second-tier stars make the Hall. And all three of them could.
Nothing overly spectacular about this guy... _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
