In terms of point guards, there are probably ten point guards having better statistical seasons; James Harden (25/8/11), Luca Doncic (29/8/9), Steph Curry (31/5/5), Russell Westbrook (22/11/11), Kyrie Irving (27/5/6), Damian Lillard (28/4/7), Tre Young (25/4/9), Dearron Fox (25/3/7) and maybe Jamaal Murray (22/4/5) than Chris Paul (16/4/9). However, Chris Paul took the currently 13th place Oklahoma City Thunder (21-41) to the playoffs as a fifth seed in the West last year, and the 10th place Phoenix Suns (34-39) a game within the first seed in the West. 10 games left on the schedule, Chris Paul has the strongest MVP case — in my opinion

The MVP isn't going to a point guard this year. I expect Jokic to win in a landslide.
Paul could easily be in the top 10, but he won't be a genuine contender. Hard to predict how he's going to stack up against Irving, Harden, Doncic, and Curry in the voting.
A more telling distinction will be how the votes for guards for the all-NBA team play out, since that is a genuine head-to-head decision.

Chris Paul has turned around every team he’s been on or made them contenders— New Orleans, Clippers, Houston, OKC, Phoenix. Sucks that he’s always had lousy sidekicks or gotten injured.
It’s odd that Paul + Harden did not result in a ring. Needed an all star big man I guess. Almost won in 2018 if not for Paul getting injured. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
